Hey. I am getting no output from mantra now that I am in ubuntu 8.04 x64. I have attached the a basic file just to show how everything is set up, and to show what my output is. If it helps, I am also not able to open image viewer. Mplay is just not popping up, when I try to simply test render the scene view.
Do I have to go back to gutsy?

Try typing “mplay” in the shell and see if you get an error or anything. If Mplay comes up then at least it's working, and something else is wrong…

i was able to open mplay from the command line.
i ran houdini from the terminal also, and recieved some more information.
it is running into an error, mantra: could not open imager
i have attached the crashlog as an image.

Also, earlier I also got a segmentation fault.

Do you have the Desktop visual effects turned off in Ubuntu? It's in System/Appearance Preferences/Visual Effects.

I turn them on and off for when I use houdini and when I do not.

I have rollled back to ubuntu 7.10 and my renders are still not popping up.
Please help.

Would it make sense if the problem was a segmentation fault? If so, how do I remedy this?

When you render try adding the -V 2 option to mantra, it should spit out some messages, maybe that gives a clue.

If it is a segmentation fault, check if the version of houdini is compatible with the gcc version of your distro.

You may need to download the gcc 4.2 version listed as Debian(Lenny) if you're using Ubuntu 8.04.

Not sure on that though, as I'm still using Gutsy.

try typing gcc –version to see what you've got.
