Hey guys,

is there any way/fix/chance for the HOUDINI_ENABLE_LINUX_THREADED_UI variable to be used and set to 1?

I really find myself uncofmfortable with the floating window when Houdini is cooking and looks like that variable just wont make houdini launch at all if set to 1…. well.. since I upgraded my system to Hardy 8.04

any solution is really appreciated.

cheers

so basically you unistalled the libx11-6 that comes with 8.04 …. and?
because if I try to uninstall that libx11-6.. basically it says that I have to uninstall .. the whole system here…. or did you downloaded/unpacked/linked that libx11-6 from 7.10 directly into Houdini folder?

any shed light will be really welcome!

cheers

I downloaded the libx11 from http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/libx11-6 [packages.ubuntu.com] then opened up a terminal and ran:

djpkg -i filename to install it. Then I had to lock it off in Synaptic so it wouldn't want to upgrade it all the time. Probably the best bet is to compile your own since it seems easy to do. I did it but I require libx11-dev so I'm stuck will lib from Gutsy till I figure out how to get that, or be better at linux.

As of houdini 9.5 it isn't worth the bother anymore:

Houdini 9.5.139: Threaded UI on linux is no longer required to use Esc key interruption. The progress text is also printed in the status bar as it was with threaded UI enabled. So, there should be no reason for anyone to set HOUDINI_ENABLE_LINUX_THREADED_UI anymore.
