Rotate the viewport camera without rolling it

Well like the title says - is it possible to rotate the viewport camera and excluding the roll.
I find that rather annoying. It already annoyed me to hell when I used blender (and was the reason why I abadonned blender) and houdini does it the same.
I hope this is possible if not bye bye Houdini and it's horrible linux styled interface.

hold down control or alt whilst truculently tumbling the viewport.
