with an imported obj file, i am unable to collide anything.

after making the imported obj a static body, it doesn't even show collision geometry in the autodopnet.

is there a setting i am missing? or is this just a format limitation…

Hi smaug. once in Houdini it doesn't matter where geometry came from so the problem for sure isn't the OBJ format, but perhaps the geometry itself is messed up?

I'd take a look a this ->

Good luck dude.

i could handle it if there was ANY collision geo… none.

possibly the obj is too small for the sinewave to create collision data.

i'll try upping the divisions also to see if some red appears.

LOL

Have you tried making it a terrain object instead? Some geometry, like grids and similar doesn't like being static objects in my experience.

making it terrain did the trick! thanks!

Dops prefers volumes of some kind, even rbd. For rbd collisions dops generates an sdf volume.
Flat planes, not having volume, makes it very hard to generate an sdf.

The terrain object shelf tool simply does an extrusion on a flat plane, to make a volume, and hides the results. There's a toggle in the Terrain object dop “Display Extrusion” so you can see what it did.
“gravity is not a force, it is a boundary layer”
“everything is coincident”
“Love; the state of suspended anticipation.”

looks that you didn't have a gravity or some force to interact with it.

when you use the static floor from the dynamic shelf it adds the connections and add gravity to it, (it save you steps on the dop)
