I hit LOAD to bring up examples of simulations in the houdini apprentice version example files but it doesnt bring anything up. It asks me if I give permission to the local server and I accept but nothing happens. I have tried reloading and even hitting the launch key with no help. Is this something that the apprentice version doesnt allow? Or am I doing something wrong? Thank you.

I've had the same problem and setting the windows environment variable:

HOUDINI_DISABLE_CONSOLE = 1

solved the problem for me.

Good luck!

Here's another solution that worked for me on Windows Vista.

Houdini installes default to “C:\Program Files\…”, and the space in the filepath caused a problem.

My solution was to install Houdini to C:\Houdini and not to the default path with spaces in.

After that example files loaded without problems.

Thank you both for the helpful responses. I will try these 2 configurations when I get home from work. I appreciate it very much.

I wish I could. My OS isn't english so I don't know what the tabs are called but it's something like right-click Mycomputer>Properties>Advanced and then one more click and you get to a window like this:

http://www.cs.usask.ca/~wew036/latex/env-env.jpg [cs.usask.ca]

You create a new variable called HOUDINI_DISABLE_CONSOLE and give it the value 1

Alternatively, you can add an entry to the houdini.env file located in your $HOME/houdiniX.X/ folder.

I did everything as you stated but it still wont load the example files. Graham, could you please explain a little more as to what im supposed to be doing when adding another entry? Thank you.
