Could it be an incorrect texture path causing the pink / red grids ?

Those look like corrupt renderings of the origin and floating axes. What video card & driver is in your system? Are you using HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE?

You probably are aware of this already, but just in case you didn't already know, your card isn't supported for use with Houdini - it's not a workstation card.

Here's a link to our System Requirements page:

Hope this helps!

HOUDINI_OGL_SOFTWARE isn't a terribly viable workaround for production, as it forces software rendering and disables hardware accelerated OpenGL - I was just wondering if you had it on previously (I've seen this problem pop up occasionally in software mode). You'd be better off simply disabling the Floating Gnomon and the Origin Gnomon in the Display Options (hotkey d, Guides & Markers tab) until the issue is resolved.

I'm running this card and haven't had any problems at all using it, even though it's not “supported”.

I suggest you reinstall your graphic drivers from the Nvidia site.

I don't get this issue on Vista32 with a GEForce 260-216 card, 191.07 nvidia drivers. The driver version is somewhat buried these days, you can find it in the Nvidia Control Panel (RMB menu on Desktop), Help->System Information. If you have a later (beta) driver, please let me know and I'll give it a try.
