I'd love to know how to build groups in VOPs,
I'd like to understand.

Only point groups are supported in VOPs.

The VOPs you need to learn are:

Add Point To Group VOP
Create Point Group VOP
Point In Group VOP

See the example file for an example of building a point group in VOPs.
