I wish to see more kinefx and ready to go IK and FK human rigs. More motion clean up tools including facial clean up plug and play nodes for Kinefx is highly required. Animator should not spend time to play with VOPs or Attributes. Why shall we leave Maya or Blender for character animation ? To learn vops ? (Challange your business ideas for a day)
Please kill Mantra! Please kill Mantra! Please kill Mantra! Or pay those who would consider installing it for the pain you caused them. Srsly shoot that thing down!
This renderer should not exist in any dictionary! Invest in Karma and make it better if you are planning to charge extra for it! Come up with real time Karma viewport that does not crush Houdini.
Ready clothes presets for vellum wont do anyone harm. This is the user friendly that users are looking for...leave the numbers dailing option for those who want to use it.
Welding points node could allow group options for the points pin and target similar to vellum stitch node instead of doing point by point welding through the whole geo!
Sculpt with brushes. Not to turn Houdini to Zbrush, but at least to add some touches.
Any updates from Sidefx comes under new solver or fast simulation means no updates and we did not do much!
Ok. I think this is a bug in Houdini 19. Something wrong with vellum hair sim if you choose " Use External Geo" For guides in the guide grooming or even if you choose to have the guides created in SOP. It wont be recognized for some reasons. I've just tested the whole thing in Houdini 18 and it works perfectly.
I have a problem with vellum hair recently encountered. I am working in SOP level and genrated the guides from the hair Geo using UV. Everything went flawless till the the simulation start. Have no idea why I am having this issue.
I am working in a vellum cloth sim for a geo of pant and shirt. I welded some of the pants points with the shirt to close the gap in between and the results were nice after the sim. However, in order to restore UV from the original geo, I had to place point deform node after vellum, but I do not see the weld between the shirt and pant coming up. There's a huge gape between the shirt and pant geo that I am not able to close now. Is there workaround for this ? Appreciate any ideas or advice.
I've been trying to get the blendshapes exported from Houdini using USD. So I can Import it to Audio2Face. However, the model is always coming without blendshapes. Appreicate any ideas and thoughts in exporting USD in general.
I've bought a model and imported it into into my scene. It has more 1000 object! It is impossible for me to change the material for each object with this number. I tried to change to assign new materials to the based on the materials groups. But old materials keeps appearing in the rendered view. I thought maybe I can re-assign the materials using the geo spread sheet. But I am not sure if I can do that.
I am using Vray for Houdini at the moment. It is quite good. Basically, it is the same Vray in the other 3D packages but integrated for Houdini. I found Renderman and Octane are faster than Vray, but quality in Vray is impressive and truly easy to use. I like UV randomizer option it saved me a lot of time and this option alone kept me away from Redshift.
You might want to try it before buy. I think Vray for Houdini will get imprved overtime. I am having issue at the moment with Vray Fur SOP node and Vray Proxy keeps crashing Houdini. But other than that, it is a decent renderer with great payment options (Monthly/Annually) that fits everybone pocket.
This duplicated object is still driving me crazy. however, I found out that this object is now showing in the viewport, it only appears during rendering. when I looked into the groups I have in the scene, I see that it is called as “_3d_hidden_primitives”. I do not why it is generated from the first place. I was able to blast it from the scene. so far so good. If anyone out there familiar with “_3d_hidden_primitives” and why it is generated then plz give a feedback.
I am getting a strange objects in the viewport while rendering and working with vellum hair. When I Looked closer i noticed that it is the same character i am working on but somehow it mixed up. however it is consuming a lot of the rendering time and work.
Any idea in how to delete and avoid having it in future ?
I am having trouble starting Houdini 18.0597. It wont start after the splash screen or logo screen and sometimes I will get a message stating:
ERROR: Couldn't open resource file ‘'resources’' (No such file ore directory).
Happens after deleting Houdini 18 folder from my documents.
I tried reaching out to the support team and they do not really have a solution for this. The only way I found to start using Houdini 18 is to stop updating Win10 and Nvidia driver. I had to roll back to an older version of Nvidia to have Houdini working.
The solutions I considered and did not work with me so far:
1- Starting Houdini as Administrator. 2- Deleting Houdini 18 folder from my documents. 3- Clean re-installation of Houdini 18. 4- Considering another production Build. 5- Considering another daily build. 6- Starting Houdini with Nvidia High GPU Performance.
The only option that works with me:
Rolling to an old version of Nvidia driver for GTX 1050 with Dell XP laptop with 32GB Ram.
If you encountered this issue before and you think that you have a solution, then please help!
Thanks for your advice. I am not considering muscles system in my workflow this time. If the character is covered in with clothes then there will be no use for muscles as most of the details will be hidden underneath the clothes. I am interested in FEM and would like to test FEM with facial expressions. How it would look and the impacts of it.
I have imported character from Maya with walking animation. I would like to add some wrinkles to the skin while moving. I am considering Houdini Muscles here as the rigging was in Maya. So I am not sure if the workflow shall be in FEM or Soft Body. I am complete beginner in both FEM and Soft body but from what I read and saw so far I understand that there's a possibility to add wrinkles to the skin. I just need to figure out the correct workflow.
I tried to use the shelf tool for FEM and I saw my model collapsing or rather say melting in the ground and my animation.
Appreciate if someone here can point out the correct workflow.
