Hello Calosus,
Is the license server running? I had the same problem with my Debian installation.
If not, try to run ./sesinetd in /etc/init.d/ or /usr/lib/sesi/
When you start an application of the Houdini family (hmaster, hselect etc.) and no license is installed on the server, a popup will come up asking you if you want to install a non-commercial version. You must have an open internet connection to do this.

Ehm… I fixed the “problem”
Before my post i changed the permissions of the houdini setup folder and all sub-folders, but not of the hdecompress file
Just no user had permission to execute hdecompress…
It's running perfectly now

Hello out there,
I have problems installing Houdini Apprentice on Debian Woody (kernel 2.4.18). During the installation, i get the error:
./houdini.install: /home/schmelly/Setups/Houdini/Linux7/bin/hdecompress: permission denied
I am logged in as root and tried it with both the bash and tcsh shell. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem?
thx, Schmelly
