Technical Discussion » "Rainbow" diagonal Banding in Open GL render, anyone familiar with how to remedy these artifacts?

Didn't fix the banding but that was really good info to have! I'd tried the open GL for fire effects prior and the results weren't so “hot”, so i'll have to give them a go with this pipeline thanks!

I've attatched a couple images (increased saturation to make it more obvious in the second), at certain points of my Open GL render i'm getting a faint RGB bit of banding. I've adjusted most all settings and quality settings I could find in the Open GL render but they still persist, does anyone know how to eliminate this?

So i've found for many particle simulations Open GL debatably looks better and takes a tiny fraction of the time to render. However I can't figure out a way to make it the core renderer in the render viewport. I realize it's very similar to the look in the render view but for several reasons it would be nice to get it working in there. Is there a way to do that?
thanks in advance!

Technical Discussion » Cache loading stops working, sometimes wont scrub backwards, sometimes just stops loading future frames and hangs on a single frame when parsing forward.

I've tried both the SSD on this computer and the larger terabyte hard drive, both have the same issue. It's not gating though. The water sims i'm able to cache. It's just frustrating having to bake out far into a sim to get a good bit of froth going so you can adjust your materials and renders only to have to restart it all over again once you find your look.

This didn't use to be an issue but i find as i get into more intense simulations and more interconnected sims like Whitewater, my sim and bgeo files just stop working.
It feels as though a Houdini scene gets corrupt over time as it starts quite stable, but once the slightest issue happens no matter what i try to do it starts happening more frequently. The problem gets worse over time. I work on 2 different machines with Houdini and I've experienced the issue on both.
Does anyone have any insight on this? It's been a major problem for me for the past couple weeks…

I signed up for the annual indie plan and I'm having trouble finding out how to cancel my subscription. It's a fantastic piece of software but I've found another solution for particles i'm more comfortable with.
If the annual payment isn't automatic this is a non issue obviously but just wanted to be sure.
Thanks in advance for any info you guys can provide.

That's probably it! Thanks a ton Sidenimjay. This forum is surprisingly helpful. There aren't THAT many things driving me crazy with this software ATM, may get to be competent at all this thing some day…

Appreciate the links, sorry for the rant, had a lot on the line last night and Houdini just wasn't cooperating.
I may stick with it despite my better judgement .
Thanks guys!

I've scoped the parameters on volume source to 0, on gas coming in. I have no idea how this little tiny fire in the middle keeps chugging along. It's there by default every time i try to make a damned smoke/ fire arrangement.
There's so many little knobs and inputs that you tweak and they do absolutely nothing. I've never been driven so insane by a piece of software in my entire life. Every important element you need to tweak is terribly named, has no documentation on its tool tip (the less important it is, the more likely it is to be tool tipped), is scattered into some corner of the node tree, and in no way has any indication of being important.
I'd thought i had solved this a month ago, and now here it is again. I was able to get better results in my first week of using this software than i am now, I'm so incredibly frustrated.
Would it kill you guys to create a sticky of worthwhile resources to learn this forsaken software, considering how impossibly hard it is to ask 1 question at a time to become competent with this thing?
The capabilities of Houdini are amazing for particles, the actual workflow and setup of the system is maddening, documentation and resources to pick it up are abysmal.
