Hi everyone,
I'm playing with rigid body dynamics right now, but I'm having some problems getting the constraints to work. No matter how I set it up, it doesn't seem to work. Can someone please give me an example or something on how to do it?
Thanks,
fixxorion

Hi all,
This should be a fairly easy question. How would I go about setting up a Set Driven Key 0like you'd find in Maya? In other words, an attribute drives the input of a graph and the output of that graph drives another attribute. How would I do this?
Thanks in advance,
fixxorion

Thank you for your efforts, but…
I've watched those videos, but they are just throwing particles onto an object and having them slide off. How are you supposed to have them stick to an object if they're already on the object and have no velocity?
I want to generate a particle from the surface having it stick to it and then control its movement along the surface. This is VERY easy to do in Maya: simply generate the particle and have the surface as a goal. Then you can manipulate the particle's goalU and goalV properties to control the particles flow over the surface.
Thanks,

Hi,
While continuing to explore Houdini particles, I've run into yet another annoying problem. All I want to do is have some particles run zig zaggedly down an object, but I can't get it to work! In Maya, all you do is set the object you want the particles to stick to as the goal, set a few attributes, and you're all set. How would I do this with POPs? Here's where I am now…I'm emitting particles from the surface of the object I want to stick to, so all the particles that are created are on the object. Now how do I make the particles slide along the object? I've tried creating a Collision POP, but don't you need the particles to actually run into the object? I've tried changing the state…everything I can think of, but I still can't get it to work. Somebody please help me! And thank you all very much for all the help you've given so far…much appreciated.

Hi all,
I've created a custom attribute named “WGHT” inside of POPs…it's all good, but now I want to access AND change that variable within a Vex POP…how would I do this? I've tried a lot of different things, but it just won't work…what am I doing wrong here? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated…learning Houdini has definitely been a challege.
Thanks,

Thank you all VERY much for the info! It was definitely driving me insane. :roll: It now works, which is comforting.
I do have another question, though…how am I supposed to access global variables within the expression function? Or better yet, how would I go about changing and accessing a custom attribute I created with an Attribute POP?
Thanks for all the help,

Thanks for the quick reply, but I have looked through the manual and cannot, for the life of me, find where I'm supposed to enter these functions. I've tried typing them directly into the parameter field, but it refuses to work. Creating them isn't the problem…it's where to put them. The answer's there, but I can't find it…please help me!
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply!
However, I actually knew about how to do that…my example was a bit too simple. Here's a more practical one. Say I've made a custom attribute, which controls the weight of an object…over time, the object get's heavier until it finally starts to fall and as it falls, it loses weight. So, I want to say say somthing like:
if ($WEIGHT < 5)
{
$WEIGHT+=0.1;
}
else
{
$WEIGHT-=0.1;
$TY-=$WEIGHT;
}
How would I do this with ONE expression? Also, how would I go about creating a custom expression function?
Thanks,

Hi all!
I'm trying to create more complex expressions within Houdini, but have run into some serious problems. If I, for instance, want to create something like the following:
if ($TX > 5)
$TX -= .1;
else
$TX += .1;
where would I enter the actual expression? This seems like a fairly simple thing to do, but I just can't figure it out…any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
