Is it possible to get into the field without a degree? It is really cheaper to purchase the dvd's, but there is no diploma. Would a portfollio do?

There might still be an old tutorial at oddforce about fur and hair or at least an example. It reall is creative on how it is done and you can control the length of the hair, as well as animate it.

Hello,
Right now I am trying to learn 3D on my own, but would like to enroll in an online program to help out. I am currently working 50+ hours as a chef but would love to break into animation, modeling, and effect. There are no colledges around where I live to enroll in.

add a resample and sweep with spheres or metaball and you will get the molecuels that make up the DNA instead of tubes. Needs a little tweaking but is very nice.

In H9 when I polyextrude a face, I do not see the extrusion until after I am finished pulling the face. Is there something I can do to see the face as I am extruding?

Thanks,
When i use this setup, the joint does not stay intact in a bend. Instead of a curve and skining a circle along it, any other ideas on how to creat bars for the roll cage with bends.

Hello,
I am creating a monster truck and the roll cage is a lot of skinned curves for the tubes. How can i connect the end points of each curve to the other curve so when i change the size of one curve, the others attached to that particular curve follow. It is a little inconvienent to shorten one curve and have to move all the other curves to line them up again. Also at the connction of each tub to another tub i am trying to generate a welding appearence. How can i give the nurbs curves the properties of a metaball to blend them together at the joint.
Thanks,
Mozzenus

Recently I have aquiered two Xeon 2.8's and 4 gigs of ram in a server, 3 year old Dell. Is it worth purchaseing new mother board, etc to build a workstation. Will this increase response in houdini in DOP's and other slower areas. I run a prescott 3.0 with 1 gig ram now. Will the performance be worth the $500 build?

I just purchased a Nvidia Quadro FX 1000. I was wondering if there is any thing special I need to set up or will it work well with Houdini on its own. I noticed there are selective options for other 3D apps.

Thanks mtucker for replying. I just got back into town. All checked out. I had to turn off the volume and laser on the physical properties of the plank and it worked out. I do think the plank was too thin for volume. This is something i learned to do to make a tube interact without volume. Thanks again.
Is there any way to set object to the final resting place. My objects seem to have to settle in on the ground plane before some of them set still?
Thanks,

I think you right mouse click on the center of the handle. When the menu comes up check the piviot mode, almost in the middle of the menu. Handle changes look and you can change pivot location then go back and uncheck the pivot box.

Hello,
I have been setting up a small domino simulation in a DOP network. I have around 16 dominos falling as planned. The last one i want to fall off the top of the stairs and land on a plank ( teter taughter effect) but the last domino just falls right through the plank. I have assinged the RBD object as all the other dominos. Create RBD object (plank) assign RBD object to interact with (falling domino) with no results. Any ideas.

iamjaideep80,
I believe there was a challenge held at the odforce forum. You might want to look around there.

Hello,
I have made a tub from the tub sop and made this work. The ball flows through the tub. I generated the tub with a lot of divisions as a polygon.
In the dop network, i turned off laser scan and created 30 divisions in the volume. In the surface parameter i set surface representation to points, all under collision and it worked out.

At 3Dbuzz right now is a tutorial on tornados. I find ODDforce to be a great forum as well. If you watch enough tutorials mix and matching will happen to get were you want to go.

I have been messing around with this breaking objects now as well as breaking objects. At ODD Force i have found a tutorial on how to simulate breaking ice. With the little bit i have experimented with this and the dynamics tutorial, it seems you can break objects via this tutorial, assign groups to pieces of the ice. Then creat a DOPs network and it should work. I have not spent much time on it, but the little i did showed great promise.
