something weird!
I tried Houdini, the computer will be frozen when i try some particular section in houdini, eg. when I want to change from Object view pane to Output pane. But, if i unlink the object view pane, change from Network pane to Output pane, it is ok. Also, when I try to use the Training desktop and Animation desktop, the houdini is frozen. But, it is ok for VOPs desktop….
It is killing me!! what is going on??
I am using Houdini 5.5.52. My grahpics card is RADEON 9700 Series, Motherboard is IWILL DP400 Motherboard.
Can anyone tell me why this happen? what causes problem?

have you tried to using the .tga texture format? In this format, the black area(alpha channel) will be transparent in your model.
You want the mouth, two eyes area transparent, right? Just edit the head texture in photoshop, create a channel for alpha and save it as tga 32 bits format.

jason_iversen, can you explain more about how to use the Extrude SOP to bevel.
coz i tried it, but it cannot bevel, the parameter pane is very complex cry

why don't you model them separately? then you can apply different shaders to them and move them anywhere you like.
I am just curious. wink
If you model it as a one object, you can apply shader to particular face just as you said a picture on wall, but then you cannot move it around then.

I have 2 questions here.. D
1)about self illumination. for instance, to create the effect of a moon, light bulb, how to do the self-illuminate effect…?
2)about blending shader. i want to animate a leaf turning from new to die away, I modify the shader for blasted leaf by putting some brown on the new leaf's texture(it is a jpg file). eg
newLeaf -> uvproject1 -> shader1
blasedLeaf -> uvproject2 -> shader2
When i applied the blend SOP for these two geometries, even i selected the Blend Texture option, it only blent the geometries but not the shaders.. why? How can i blend the shaders?

I know that the FK solver is for the spine and head, the Inverse Kinematics is for the legs and feet, Forward Kinematics is for shoulders and arms and hands. Is it always the case? and the drawing direction of the bones matters? shock
Also, if animation the creature wihout legs, such as snake and caterpillar, how to build the skeleton to animate its movement?

I cannot find the tutorial in CD2, only a videa about character bones is “Character_overview.rm” in folder “Overview”, but its speed is too fast so i cannot clearly see which procedure is going there..

I want to play a sound file(only .aiff works in my Houdini, not others, I don't why) at a specific frame. Let's say my animation has totally 50 frames, and I want the sound play at the frame 25.
Editing this sound file by make the frame 1 to 24 silent is ok. But i hope there is another way to do that. I tried to append a Delay operation to File, but it doesn't work(maybe i did it wrong). Could you give me an answer? roll
Also, if I want to play two sound files at different frame or mix them, what can I do?

I read the Help materials about camera, knowing the Focus and Fstop value can make the camera only focus on some thing and the other objects behind or before it will be blur, but when I changed the value and Focus and Fstop, render the scene, nothing is blur.
Why? is it possible to give me a simple sample hip file to demostrate that problem? shock
