Technical Discussion » Expression Text Box Colors

Hello, as a colorblind user I'm hoping someone can point me in the correct direction to customize some of Houdini's interface. When ever making an expression in a channel the box will turn green. I don't mind this but the cursor turning Orange on top of it makes it extremely hard for me to see. Is there a way I could make the cursor a different color in this situation? Thanks for any help.

I have been using the pop attract to get particles to accelerate towards a group of points I created. Is there a way to have better control when the particles get to their Goal Point? Right now they always over shoot and begin to orbit the goal point. Any help would be great!
Thanks
Thanks

We use RV to view our playblasts. Whenever I make a .mov from the MPlay file export. The .mov will never open in RV. I can get the file to open in VLC. Is there a different kind of encoding going on? I know RV supports .mov from other programs.
Thanks for any help!

Technical Discussion » Post Explosion Burn

I'm looking to make a generic explosion that does not have a burn after the boom. I have my Burn Rate set to 1, Fuel Inefficiency set to 0 and I scale down Scale Source Volume to 0 in 2 frames. I am still getting a burn on my source geo well into frame 80. Could someone point me in the right direction to solve this issue?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thank you so much! “Into This Object” has been the magic key I have been searching for. This helps me with a ton of issues.
Technical Discussion » VDB fog swimming through noise

I'm turning deforming geo into a VDB fog. I would like to randomize the density of this fog, but using noise in a Volume Vop is currently causing the fog to swim through the density as it moves. Is there a way to combat this?
Thanks

I'm using the follow path constraint to have geo animate along a curve. I'm using this geo to emit particles. Is there a way to assign velocity attributes to this geo so I can inherit some of the visibility during emission? I'm not familiar with how Chops are applying motion with none of it is usable at the sop level.
Thanks for any help!

What do I need to change in my static geo to emit smoke inside the mesh and have it collide with the interior?
Technical Discussion » Point Edge Direction

I'm getting the edge direction for a line tool. The old way was to create the old point sop and just turn on add edge force Force to get the tangent. After some research, I was directed to use the new Point sop, I created a custom attribute, named it edge direction, used a reverse sop, and polyframe to get the tangent. This works.
The problem is that I have my edge tangents in an attribute but the points for my line are in reverse order. How can I change that back while keeping the edge direction.
Thanks for any help!

Our pipline currently saves only the point data (trying to come up with a workflow that doesn't require going back and making another .abc) that's why I was hoping for a way to connect the 2 back together in houdini.
It was at the geo level I can at least see the point cloud data but no geometry with it.

Hey everyone,
I have an animation (made in maya) that has been saved as an .abc point cache. What should my workflow look like to bring this into Houdini? I have the point cache showing up with the alembic node but I would love to attach it back to the geometry it originally had in maya.

Thank you bonsak!
I went withto get it extremely close to the other point SOP. Out of curiosity would you happen to know why there is a discrepancy in the result of sin. Why I need to multiply by .01745 in the new one?
I went with
set(self.x, self.y + sin(@ptnum*.01745) , self.z)

Yea I have been reading up on the change to attribute syntax but I'm not sure which VEXpression in the drop down to unitize. In this example the sin gets applied to all axis.

Hello, In the Old point SOP you could do sin($PT) to get the sin location for every point on just the Y value.
What is the equivalent in the new Point SOP. I'm not finding a way to isolate just the Y value.
Also is the Vector attribute class now gone in the new Point SOP?
Thanks!
Trying to replicate the picture below using the new method

Nvidia Drivers are up to date but we are running 16.0.504.20 so I will update and see if that will fix the issue!

Hello, Is there options to change which viewport Houdini 16 is using? We are trouble shooting Houdini becoming extremely sluggish after using the new copy SOP and I wanted to see if it was a view port issue. Its a scene where we are beveling stairs and copying them with rotation to make a staircase. Its only 10k polys and I have no idea what it would be so slow.
