Houdini Lounge » Do you want to make tutorials?

Hi,
Im currently working on a website that is based around learning production softwares like Houdini. We have a tutorial section with highly exclusive tutorials and the idea is that learning should be free and expose good tuts for everyone that want to learn.
On the tutorials we have both normal and highly profiled users contributing for free with tutorials of what they know. Its important for us to have basic, mid level and advanced tutorials.
Please let me know if you want to contribute, that would mean a lot. We are looking for exclusive tutorials. The contributors will have their own section of exposure with personal information. If its interesting or you have more question, please feel free to drop me a personal message.
All the best, Stig Olsen

Its thousands of modeling tutorials out there for Maya, so I would go for Maya. Later you can translate your knowledge into Houdini - if you for some reason has to model in Houdini. The way I began understanding Houdini was to learn other 3d softwares. Good luck.

Thanks!
It works very well, I ve added pop torque, pop spin drag and some wind forces.
What I would like to do is separate the particles a bit. As they follow the curve they are often “gathering” together on the curve, so I would like them to spread out more. Like setting a distance they need to keep from each other. Is that possible? Nor for all but for maybe 60& of the particles.

Perfect! Thanks!
What would be a good expression to make the particles in this particular scene to rotate a bit?

Hi,
What do I have to do to make the particles collide in the other objects in the scene? I seem to remember that I earlier used to make the objects static RBD objects, but now it doesnt seem to work. Im using the new pop network.

Hi,
What is the best way to have the particles follow a path (and control!) the particles? Like in this commercial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flro8QVDfn0 [youtube.com]
I guess they have used a wind pop or something to create the organic movements, but the path is somehow controlled.

I guess the last code randomize the point IDs. Why do you add 2322.
Why do you use @ intead of $?

Thanx!
That actually helped me understand POP Wrangle a b bit more.
I did set the code like this:
@Cd = set(0,1,0);
if( @P.y<4)
@Cd = set(1,0,0,0);
I guess @ is the same as using $ for variables?
Is the @P and @Cd variables that are already set, or a part of Houdini? Why dont I need to create those attributes?

Hi,
What is the most used expressions in Houdini? The expressions that you find yourself using over and over again?

And in this another project (see attachment) I have made a group and a color sop for the same purpose. This doesnt work neither.

Hi,
I have this project where I try to color the falling particles when they reach the Y position that is set in the attribute create.
I then reference the attribute in the color tab of the point sop, but nothing happen. Can someone take a look at my project and tell me what Im doing wrong?

What you say makes sense, but I think this is a bug in my system.
I have changed from capital letters, but I end up with a “red” node, and when MMB clicking on it it tells me that its unable to evaluate the expression and points to the diffr that you mentioned in an earlier post. I have tried to delete and add a new point sop but still.
