Houdini Indie and Apprentice » how do you align the move handle to a primitive selection?
- zarti

why sometimes it's so hard to select some faces..
are you sure you are in Selection State ? .. because some tools ( when in active state ) make the geometry look like the geometry is ready for selection .
at least this appeared to be the case in some occasions for me.
once in Selection State, i never had problems with selections.

hi ,
never had a chance to do a t-shirt , but since you already have the mesh ( body ) , why do you not start extracting that part of the body to where the tshirt wd rest on … which might be easier to reference too ?
later you can reduce , tweak or whatever over that base mesh …
.cheers

hi ,
drop it in an Object context and pres Enter , while it is selected on the network .
two nulls' handles ( extremities ) shd appear in viewport .
another way wd be to reference both point through expressions entered in the Otl's parameter panel
( Point_A_translate and Point_B_translate fields ) .
.cheers

hi ,
my preferred ‘way’ of dealing with these kind of situations ( esp when the silhouette is closed ) is this ;
- select the edge loop
- apply a PolyCap to those
- from there , for me is ‘the usual business’ with That polygon, which acts as a placeholder for those edges …

hi ,
no, it is not 1dpi . afaik , the dpi of renders which 3d apps generate is 72dpi . you may consider that as a starting point and perform few tests and calculate the correct / acceptable width and height …
also you might take a look at this link http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=1855778&postcount=11 [forums.cgsociety.org] , which i quickly googed …
i'm sure you may find other more accurate explanations for other 3d apps , if you digg .

Houdini Lounge » houdini save uv texture to image
- zarti

hi issa ,
to reduce the repetition , maybe it would be better to have a bigger picture ( more bricks and less noisy , and randomize those by editing polygons in UV space ) .
you can also add other layers of noise on top of the original texture / picture , to hide the repetition .
maybe you can try that already with both pictures above , but that depends on the final look you want to achieve .
… anyway , again i would suggest you to start with a more “uniform” / “calm” pattern .
.cheers

…
3. Is there a way to feed the twist sop with an attribiute based on “Cd”.
I need the twist strength take a color ramp into account.
Tryed it with $ATTRIBUTENAME but that seem not work.
hi ,
afaik no , but as Soothsayer said you can build your own twist .
the attached file has a very simple twist vop ( only Y axis ) ;
“attrib Switcher” option mean :
0=$CR ( second input )
1=$CG ( second input )
2=$CB ( second input )
3= custom float attribute ( first input ) … put its name on the text field below it .
also , the “attribcreate1” node has a “offset” slider to see how attribute affects the twist .

…
There is no way to use Python to select any geometry entity in the viewport however.
…
might be interesting , if that wd be true someday .
first thing that comes in my mind ; different selection patterns ( 1 of nth , next loop , previous loop , etc .. )
… oc , ideally assignable to shortcuts for viewport modelling sessions .

hi ,
( just trying here )
polygons in this case play the role of pixels in an image . so more polies in the gradient area the more ‘ smooth ’ it wd appear .
also i might suggest you for other similar cases a nice little DA ; Attribute Blur . you can find it on the Exchange page .
here is its link : http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=149 [sidefx.com]
hope those help !
