Hi guys,
Been having a few stability issues as of late. Specifically H9.2** and now with the latest build H9.3** which I downloaded about 1hr30 minutes ago and in the short time its been installed ive had a random crash and lost what I was working on. Unfortunatly the crash resulted in no .hipnc file to upload to support this.
I cant be 100% sure its not something in my machine causing this, but I thought I would mention it anyways.
The crashes have been totally random, so random I cant actually attempt to pin point what or where. This time I was entering an expression in a pointSOP to translate points using colour from a copnet with the pic(), on a grid that was created by lines copied onto one another.
Here is the info I have for my system…
Windows Vista™ Ultimate 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz

I did a search but didnt see anything at first glance that rang any bells, so I thought I would post this.
If its my end (which I will be looking into) then I apologise, however if it is a bug of some sort then this might be valuble information for you.
Cheers

RC planes is good hobby. I never actually got to fly any as a kid, although I did crash a few control-liner planes.
Anyhoo I think you should build me a Mooney Bravo (M20M) . Id love to fly the real thing. I was supposed to do my pilots licence this year, but never got around to it

I think it would be a brilliant understanding of Operating Systems (especially the one you wish to design a game/engine for) and a solid understanding of C#/C++
Im not a coder so there are probably much better qualified people on here to answer that question for you.

What exactly can you do in Houdini?
That is literally governed by experience and imagination. I dont think there is much, if anything you cannot acheive inside of Houdini. That is one of the main reasons that keeps me excited about Houdini. Never ceases to amaze me what people can squeeze from this application.
A small suggestion from me would be to watch lots of tutorials to get you familiar with the GUI and the methodology surrounding the node-based workflow (there are plenty of video's here and at 3dbuzz to get you started). Just give yourself a lot of time to play with it. Create WIP threads and you can get advice and idea's as you want them, and just ask questions.
Good luck and have fun!

This sounds like a graphic card issue. Houdini has some issues with ATI cards, and if you are using NVidia then update your drivers, although I have a 8800GTS NVidia card, and I get the same problem if I use the Beta drivers, so I had to revert back to an older driver.

I run Vista-64 and everything is fine for me. Adding more than 3gb of ram to XP-32 has been known to cause serious problems with stability even though they claim it can run ok with 4gb.
32-bit games ect run fine for me, they just get installed into a seperate set of program files, as in 64-bit you get 2 set of program files…
Program files <—for 64-bit apps
Program files(x86) <—for 32-bit apps
As for Houdini the 64-bit version has and still is very stable for me. Only crashes Ive had has been completely my fault.

afaik if you specify a texture map, if you copy+paste the address to where the texture lies in the openGL tab of a material inside shops, it should show up in the viewport. Or it did in the days of H8 anyways
