Bah, If I'm that interested in getting rid of the watermark I'll shell out for the HD version.
Side Effects are going to have to suck up my change to their logo colors.

Here's another one from me learning Houdini…

I like how stable the dynamics are, they tend to just work.

Thats cool. How would you grow the thickness of them so that the tips were thin and the bases grew thicker and thicker… I tried some stuff based on age and life but it was either inverted or when a 0 age particle appeared I got a huge fat base…..

Very cool, thanks Peter.
I was looking for for a way to group the particles being used for the curve based on maybe the ID of the emitting particle so I could have an arbitrary number of these made from dying particles… Ill keep looking around.

welcome to Houdini Leefmc. I'm new here too and it's like a drug this procedural stuff…. Don't take the free hit if you do't want to get hooked.

You could use composite node? I'm just guessing here, other than some basic playing around I have no idea what I'm doing in VEX.
It seems like in the combine section is all the stuff you want.

I like that you can add points from POP into a curve and hit it with a polywire. Very cool.
Is there a way to somehow automatically create a bunch of particles, have them stop or die and emit a new stream of particles each and have them grouped based on the original parent so that you can just polywire each separate tendril and not the whole pop system? I want to have a bunch of these tendrils all sprouting from particles.

Wont that cause havok with motionblur? Wouldn't it be better to have something the asks what position a copy is at and deletes it if it reaches the end.

In the Creep U channel could you put in something like:
0.5 - $ID/20
And then animate the 0.5 value somehow? That way they would spread out along the curve up to the halfway point and offset back by thier particle ID…
But you cant animate a single parameter in an expression…. How is that done, do you add an attribute, animate that and then use it in the expression?
…
I just tried that, it seems to work….
See attached.

I've been following this as well, interesting problem. If you're basing it on age how could you start and stop the flow based on the firing of the machine gun?

Does anyone have a simple .hip file that can be picked apart to see how to make a simple blast that the fireball turns to smoke and curls up and away? Think of all those ‘Reel Explosions’ blasts that get used for stock footage. Even a simple example with houdini would be cool to see….

Is there a way to get trace to work on a UV'd texture mapped onto an object? Say you have a teapot with a camo pattern textured on it, could you SOP trace that texture and get curves in the 3d shape of the teapot?
I'd like to try deforming an object then at a certain point blow a skin of shapes off of it.

Thanks for the file. What types of nodes should I be looking at to say grow geometry along splines? Like tendrils/vines growing….

Allegro: very cool. Can you post the .hip for that scene for me to pick apart? A lot of neat stuff going on in that one.

The same applies to Alpha but you can use the Colour POP with a Ramp control. Be aware of the Lookup parameter where it's based on the total number of frames so you should change it to $LIFE.
I can get a ramp set to color to affect the particles, but it seems like no matter what I put in the alpha ramp section my alpha is always pure white on the particles….. thoughts?
