Well don't be too much excited or depressed when a new plugin like this pretend to do things faster. We'll compare them when they have the same feature set and stability. Right now BulletFX seems quite beta. There's not even a way to continue a sim after stopping it. i did a few FEM test and with other geo than a cube it was exploding and crashing all the time. Now I have some time for learning and testing softwares, but I got Houdini, Houdini engine for max, phoenixFD, max creation graph, lucid physic so a lot to try and when one soft is just crashing all the time I have have to go to the next or I'm loosing my time.
I am now jumping back to Houdini and I noticed that it's very powerful and a well implemented ecosystem but some simple things a re a bit slow. Like I'm playing with procedural noise map and was surprise we can't even see them easily in the viewport and changing parameter in the noise cause quite slow refresh of the render view, while in max most of the time you can see the noise updating in realtime in the viewport and the material preview.
Anyway owning and knowing both apps is the best!

It is working for me. Please just follow the precise instructions in the InstallGuide_en.docx document. It is really amazing and promising! But some stuff like solvers and most thing related to animation don't update in 3dsmax yet.
And a big Thank to Suzuki san for this! I hope he will find time to implement it fully. It is near the goal!

I don't see the exponent value in houdini 15. They talk about that in the help file about this vex node but it'd not there.

Maybe you could try with hooudini engine for 3ds max. I am just beginning to explorer it so I can't tell yet if it will work.

you can also try with the prt exporter for houdini. remember there is a free version of krakatoa you can use for this.

Houdini Engine for 3ds max is now available and working! I can't believe how well it works!
Here is a swiss cheese plugin for max that I created in Houdini and loaded in max via the Houdini Engine. I had a hard time finding the binaries, it's kind of hidden in the github website. Not very user friendly but I got it to work.
So finally Houdini Engine for max is free for Houdini indie licensee? You should make some announcement about that!

but at 2:28 when she says the soccer ball comes back, it does not work for me. The soccer ball does not come back and nothing happen. Does anyone has any idea why it's not working as in the video. Can anyone confirm if it's working or not for them.

I am always max user, often FX artist and newly Houdini license owner and I would like to know what's the status of Houdini Engine for max.
There was some annoucement that it would be out in late 2014 [sidefx.com], then the deadline passed and I saw no news. I contacted a japanese developer (Hideki suzuki) who was supposed to be working on it but I never got any answer.
I just saw that the source code is on github [github.com] (posted by Suzuki san) with instruction on how to complile it but I never compiled anything before and I would prefer spending my time learning houdini than visual studio!
Why don't side fx compile it themselves?
Did anyone succeeded at making this work in 3ds max?

Hi all,
I am learning houdini right now and I first want to learn grain sims. I get good result at low res but when cranking up the res, it always end up exploding at some point. Could anyone give any tip on how to prevent grain sims to explode?

Well anyone can overcome anything these days if one really wants to. I think this deal relies on trust anyway so why not allowing 3rd party renderers? Anyway vray is not out yet for houdini but I wish they change their mind once it is!
I guess they also want to promote the use of mantra which looks really cool but it took me so many years to really master vray…

Ok great thanks. So that way I can render with vray. But I hope when vray for houdini comes out that I can render with it directly in houdini indie. My long term goal would be to transition completely to houdini if I can cause now I loose too much money buying updates at unpredictible prices (ma ny thousands$) and timing for zillions of plugins that are never so well integrated in max. When I see how everything is already there in houdini and so well integrated I can't stop smiling. But it's still a long way for me to learn everything since I'm a generalist and I do everyting from modeling to rigging, fx, shading lighting and rendering.

Hi everyone, I'm a long time max/vray and zillion of max plugins user, I'm now learning houdini with apprentice and I'm about to buy Houdini indie like in 5 minutes!
I would like to know what this sentence means exactly in the interoperability description about FBX and Alembic:
“The use of these formats falls under the same limited commercial license as the use of Indie Houdini itself.”
I want to be sure I can import stuff like rbd sims and fluids and particles from houdini indie to 3ds max and PhoenixFD or Krakatoa and then do what I want in 3ds max. Like rendering with vray with the resolution that I want.
By reading this sentence I started being afraid that the licensing would prevent me to render with vray inside of max….
Please reassure me before I buy

I am trying to install apprentice. I have an almost new computer (Boxx dual quad) with all latest drivers on windows x64. Geforce. Only trying to open houdini and my computer freezes completely. I never saw any software acting like that. What a mess! I tried few months ago to install houdini too and the UI was always disappearing.
I am a user of Maya Max and XSI and never had any problem like that with these other apps.
I would like to become a user of Houdini too.But it seems it is not compatible with my Boxx workstation.
