hi!
I know what you mean….but seriously if you need a free modeller for characters and basic architecture…WINGS is the way to go…
not to down houdini…but I havent been able to find tools like slide edges…tweak(at least as robust as I find it in wings)….loop cut…intrude…and bridge….
those…along with the navigation functions make my life a good thing when I use wings….and its FREE!
wings is built more on a “fire and forget” strategem…houdini is built more on “all information is precious” strategem…but the great thing about houdini is the it has become very good at mimicry…and is simultaneously becomeing architecturally neutral to software information…
which ever way you go you cant lose ….99$ WOW!
here is why…they gave you what you need to know for rigging…AND the software comes with an autorigger…
plus…you can mimic your softwares approach….in houdini….and in time houdini will show you other strategies of using the tools…
free modeler
www.wings3d.com
it will run ok on your hardware

Hi I just wanted to give thanks to sidefx for posting so many great tutorials for houdini.
I started with houdini way back when in the 1.0 era…and I used it up until 4.1
it has been a pleasure to see the growth and the development of the software…I took a detour and learned to use maya and realflow, etc. , etc.
and I must say that the appreciation I have for the tool grew…it seems like sidefx really did a slamdunk job with the manuals and examples and it is also really nice to have the gnomon and cmi tutorials available as well…its nice…I picked a lot from the introduction dvd…(that I should have known *years* ago…LOL)…and for me craig's dvd is priceless…
and the icing on the cake is now we could actually get our own copy for 99$…
it seems that houdini has become more versatile and transformable over the years…with the ability to “mimic” other softwares…yet retain its efficiency.
I would like to suggest that you allow a level of flexibility in the ops department…in the graphic respresentation…sometimes I like how slick it is…but many time I wish there was a hotkey to make it take up less real estate on my laptop…but I realize how much care has gone into this true piece of art…kudos….
and p.s.
NEVER SELL OUT TO ANY CORPORATION!!!! NEVER LET AUTODESK OR ANYONE ELSE ACQUIRE U.
After reading on this user group for years…silently…all of you, new and old…are spectacular.
sincerely

Hi community…I had some questions about stamping…
maybe because I see it as one of the crown jewels to houdini…along with the point and primitve sop.
A) is it possible to stamp textures…say for instance with the feather tutorial…how could one copy different feather maps to all those panels
B) is it possible to stamp animation channels via CHOPS…sometimes I feel the practical application of CHOPS in animation is overlooked…there are SO many functions that seem unclear…like the FAN CHOP…some of the functions I do understand…but most are beyond me…
C) could someone show us how to do it efficiently and effectively? if of course anyone has time to do it in their spare or professional time…
thanks in advance

Hi my name is adekoye…I have not used houdini since 4.1 but it is nice to watch it develop along the years…
I had the chance to learn realflow and maya…and DOPS are still a mystery to me…so I was wondering about the current state of development for the plugin…
great to be back!
