Hi, im new to this, im sure the guys will have a better answer for you in a minute. But wanted to leave me 2 cents too.
For names I tend use the Attribute Create node and create your name string there. Specially if you need to use substr() padzero() etc... . Id rather do it here and just reference the name att around the scene (i.e @fileDescription ).
But, if you can keep your name suffix as a simple index and pipe the data into metadata, Id say its a better practice in the long run.
As for the range. I think you need to keep ur total range, so 1-20, and use 'Filter Range' node to get your setup working as you expect it to.
Im guessing that if you reset your range each time you run it, from 1-10 and then 11-20, 'glitch_5.gif' will be 4 in (1-10) and 14 in (11-20). Or something around that line.
As for 'preserve wedgenum' i havent used it, but it seems to convert wedgenum from 'integer' to 'integer array'. So, say you have 4 wedge nodes in your graph and you check preserve on all the nodes. The first iteration of your graph, wedgenum should return the array (0,0,0,0) or the 5th iteration of the last node, wedgenum = (0,0,0,4)
Hope that makes sense,
Cheers!

For loop is the next thing I should dabble into definitely. Now Im curious to see how these 2 setups behave.
The overwriting aspect of the chain was not to blow the cap off of my hd with 'bgeos.sc' temporary sim caches.
Not sure im happy about dumping the JPGs as i have to manage the mp4 outside hou. But thats the decision for now.
The chain created some 300 sim variations overnight, hopefully i can scan thru the lot quickly and find 'sweet spot values'. Brute force approach

Many thanks for the additional info mestela.
The setup is working as I have it. Just wondering what would be the best method for this.
Partition by index seems to be helping to achieve this:
I need cache1 to wait until capture0 is done.
When daisy chaining, TOPs seems to want to start cache1 while capture0 is still running. Cant have that for this case.

Hey!! seems i stumbled on something now.
Att remap was set to 0 to 1000 for density. Changing that to 1 to 1000 made the whole diff.
Will get back to this. CPU is 100% constantly now.
So many things to learn boy oh boy. Exciting

Tomas you legend ! Thanks for this, *Filter by Range* is not only the favorite answer but it also opened a whole new can of worms for me.
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll keep digging into the infos, thanks for the link.
I had to fan out as series of nodes wouldnt behave as expected.
I need only one geo cache to run first, followed by that ogl node also running only once and rince and repeat that loop.
I couldnt see an option for the time being. That 'partition by index' node is my new best friend.
Im just certain im using it wrong - lol.
Still opened to suggestions if anyone has 2 cents to throw in.
Many thanks
Al

Technical Discussion » FLIP - Gas solver viscosity - Simulation times inconsistent
- axelsp

Hello Gurus,
I have been using this FLIP setup for a bit now and was used to seeing most of the sim times around the 5-6mins mark.
But when submitting the sim to the BG my eye caught a few lines running over 20 mins of sim time.
Granted im playing with Viscosity & Density. The ranges are roughly:
visc: 0.01 to 1
Dens: 1 to 1000
Within these values im contrasting the attributes. And that seems to be causing the inconsistency, just wondering why.
It causes a seemingly inconsistent trigger of 'Solving : GAS_Viscosity :'.
When that solver kicks in the CPU usage becomes spiky and the sims takes much longer.
When it seemingly doesnt kick in, the cpu stays at 100% all the way thru and these sims are the 5-6mins.
Both results behave as expected. i.e. they all have viscosity and density attributes.
Enabling OpenCL make no diff.
Just touching base to see if thats a known topic.
As always any thoughts on the matter, highly appreciated,
Thankious

This reply is more of a personal note, if thats ok. Just nicked and adapted this from another post in the forum.
I need to test it still.

choices = range(3) for index, upstream_item in enumerate(upstream_items): if index not in choices: item_holder.addWorkItem(parent=upstream_item)

Hello,
Currently suffering from "got only 1 machine to use" so i need to cook a recipe in a very specific order, as you do.
So the TOP docs just introduced me to 'partition by index'. Im just confused with why it ran the secondary branch first out of the box.
I needed to fiddle with a duplicated 'local scheduler' that sets 'inherit priority from upstream item'.
Im wedging a fluid simulation, overwriting sim geo cache, overwriting JPG from OGL capture, and generating a unique MP4 file thru ffmpeg.
Question is, is there another way to go about this? what is the correct approach for a task like this.
This setup currently works, but im write to the same files on disk for the most part of the process only to output that unique MP4 at the very end. So it feels im fighting against the tide a little.
Thanks a mi,
Al.

Hello,
Lets say i have generated 10 work items but already cooked 3.
Is there a way to explicitly tell the network to skip the first 3 indices?

Hallo everyone
Is there a way to make a ramp parm bias wedge values ?
Ex: Wedge 'viscosity' from 0.1 to 100, but having a 'ramp' that would drive the wedge to sample more around the min or max values accordingly.

Hello Gang ! hope you all no less then fab.
Been changing UI colors recently, as you do, and wondering why these live under the sys admin folder struct.
Turns out I cant carry my favorite setup around with me as a freelancer, since i wont get 'admin privs' for most cases.
For some entries, seems I need to overwrite Sidefx's ones, which feels hacky.
The 2 files tweaked were:
folder:
- 3DSceneColors.dark (overwrite)
- UIDark_username.hcs (duplicate from UIDark)

@axelsp Hey, its super simple:
Just go to `arset manager` and find the node you want to duplicate. Right click it and choose duplicate, then change the name, label and lib you want to save the hda into.
Das it, good luck handsome!

The main issue so far is that 'shell_mod' replaces 'shell' as soon as I install my custom hda.
I would like for them to be independent. So keep both in the env.

Hallo gang!
I would love to create a few custom tools and "shell node" seems to be the perfect base for me to start from.
Basically I would like to duplicate it, rename, and start creating spare params on it, and default values and proper names, so i can "tab and find" them quickly. Anyone could point me to docs or vids on how to do that neatly/properly please?
Cheers,
Al.

Who has been there and done that ? Im looking for any pointers purdy please.
I've been looking at how to find gplay.exe's CLSID in the registry. Since i never done such a thing I have no idea if thats the right path.
Spent the best part of the hour pressing F3 on regedit.exe and couldnt find the CLSID for it. Google aint helping much either..
Im suspecting there must be a very good reason why sideFX hasnt done it on installation, im wondering why. It seems to be such a fast app... Would that bring my puter to an absolute halt if its set to preview stuff ??
Cheers!
