Hello, i'm fairly new to FLIP too.
To fill up the cup fast, first thing that comes to my mind is to increase the number of points on the source emitter.
For particles penetrating the cup, I would suggest using the cup itself as a sink to kill the naughty particles. Append Peak SOP to your cup geometry and scale it up and use that as a sink.
Think you can use Delete SOP too but it doesn't take in a bounding object like Group SOP so may not be a good idea.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Q: Color Transfer to Volume (Isooffset)

Yes, that's what I wanted!!!
Very thankful for the prompt reply!
Have doubts…
1) Volume from Attrib SOP, it transfers point attributes onto volume - is it transferring point position attributes here?
2) Volume from Attrib SOP, “Max Extrap Cells” - I can see what it's doing but honestly dont understand it after reading help doc.
3) Volume SOP, eetu you used it to turn the box into volume inorder to append it to the 1st input of Volume from Attrib SOP. I would think using Isooffset SOP would work but it didnt, why? :?
4) I needed some points to be scatters (see screen-cap, the red points) at the empty space, managed to do it the dirty way by subtracting the volume via Volume Mix SOP. Is there a better way to do this?
Sorry to bombard questions.
Here's the hip file incase someone didnt' get me.

Seems you want to scatter points in the volume based on the color attribute?
Yep Francisco, that's what i wanted. Still thanks for replying, i learned something from it!
eetu - that's a really neat example, i kind of understand the file. Tried to implement it with what i'm doing, appears i have to replace the “Volume SOP” with Color.* with the red color attribute via “AttribTransfer SOP”. I tried to import in my color attribute into “Volume VOP” but it didnt work.
Seems like it's wrong since i'm feeding in point attribute Cd, your example had like a Color Field (is that what it's called?).
eetu or anybody willing to look at my file? Thanks in advance!

Morning,
the image below shows color being transferred onto a box. A Scatter SOP using color as alternate attribute but it scatters on the surface, I want to use Isooffset SOP and scatter the points in a volume as VoronroiFracture would be used later.
I'm aware people are capable of coloring smoke within DOPs, can the same be done with Isooffset SOP.
Googling didnt produce any helpful threads, would be happy if someone can share links/solutions - Thankss!

Understood, thank you Rudi!
Is there a solution for the case where the topology is changing, anybody?

Hello,
was trying to understand what you guys are talking abt… I used uv and color attribute to scatter points, seems like the points are still jittering around (had “points per area” set to 0.5).
Although setting it to a value of 1.0 will make the points seems like they have a fixed position, looking at the points' numbers - they are still shuffling around, is that suppose to happen? :?

If you have the memory and you are finding that many cores sit idle for most of your rendered frame, you can try rendering two images at a time to better utilize the cores…
Hope I dont sound silly… can this be done with non-commercial license?

I had my own shelf tab (Python Tools), deleted default.shelf file and the tools inside the Python Tools shelf tab were gone. Appears default.shelf holds all the custom tools you got…
Guess the next quickest way is to copy&paste default.shelf, rename it and save it. Looks Houdini would always point to default.shelf, maybe someone out there knows how to change that.

I am not sure if this is the proper way. Type the name for the shelf tool, hit apply and it creates a shelf file for you. Hope this is what you are looking for!

*can I use the point SOP's normal force to keep particles from colliding with my models so that they once they get near flow around them?
Yeah you can! One way i know is to use the Attractor POP, giving it negative force value in Point SOP.

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Velocity Blur versus Rendered Motion Blur?

Morning,
was following this thread for rendering velocity pass (Thanks!) -
http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=15521&highlight=motion+vectors [sidefx.com]
In the shot, i have a hammer swinging down in an arc - when composited in NUKE with vector_blur node, the blurring turn out more like a diagonal line instead of arcing. Tweaked “uv” and “offset” parameters and was never able to get the desired result as rendering motion-blur into the image.
Am I doing it incorrectly in NUKE, was my velocity pass rendered incorrectly or is it not possible to achieve similar result as rendered motion-blur using velocity blur since it's considered “fake” (image attached below).
Leading to two other questions…
1) What other reasons would one use velocity blur besides having the ability to control the amount of blur desired in comp & it renders faster motion-blur?
2) Why/What makes rendering motion-blur into an image slower?
Is velocity blur the ideal method used by everyone (especially in production), are there special cases where professionals would render motion-blur directly?
I must be searching the wrong places, cant seem to find threads/sites relating to them. Sorry to pack all my doubts in this thread and I understand this problem isn't entirely related to Houdini… But would deeply appreciate it if anybody can point me to them or give some insight!

I believe you can bring in the shadowmap from the light source, hope i'm understanding the situation correctly. :?
and you also want to untick “auto generate shadowmap” (unsure whether it's deactivated when you read from disk) just incase it continues to generate shadowmap upon render.

Yes, my bad for not being clear - i'm creating a tool using python, i am able to enable “override camera resolution” but both pieces of code below doesn't change “resolution scale” to 1/2 resolution.
The tool didn't prompt any error message when executed.
Thank you for replying, 2. was useful for me!
resFract = mantra.parm(“res_fraction”)
resFract.set(“0.5”)
or
resFract = mantra.parm(“res_fraction”).set(“0.5”)

May I ask which command to set the resolution scale in mantra?
Been using set() and setExpression() up until i came across a menu parameter, I tried menuType and menuParmTemplate which are probably not it. Any hints?
