I've got a solution now.. but I'm not sure this is the best solution.
Please check my file..

Is there a way to create clean intersection path from multiple curves?
I have tried many different things but I'm running out of ideas.
Also tried some VDB solutions but but when converting back to poly's I cant get clean geometry.. :'(
Please check the attached file and thanks in advance!

I was looking in the connectivity sop today but could get it to work like that, great job man!

I used different mapping for UV's for this kind of geometry I usually do plastic wrap mapping which does what you might think it does. But usually I do UV's in (manually) with other software.. ops:
I also removed the attribute transfer since VDB retains the UV's if you connect the original mesh to the second input of your VDB Convert

Houdini Learning Materials » Fracture Problem

It looks like the model of the building allready has many pieces which makes it kinda hard to fracture the surface the way you want.
You want to fracture the building in three pieces which is really hard the way it is right now due to that it allready contains more than 50 pieces for example.
One way to fracture it into exactly three pieces is to convert the building to VDB mesh with very low voxel size and then convert it back to poly's. It should now be one solid and then the fracturing should be fine..

Hi guys,
I've just uploaded a new tutorial, I will plan on creating more tutorials from now on and hopefully my time allows it!
Anyways this is part one of the tutorial, I reached one hour so I tought it's better to split it in multiple parts. Part two will all be about rigid bodies, particles, and smoke (maybe some rendering but I don't know how long part two will take).
I'll be using many techniques, some old ones but also some freestyle creative ones and I hope this will help some of you!

Cheers!

I dont think you can do this by default, some scripting perhaps.
But if you dont have any scripting knowledge you could build a tool in Houdini which could group and color the components the way you like..

It would be cool to have a “per node undo history”, sometimes when I tweak multiple settings on multiple nodes I only want to undo the changes from the first node for example.. instead of bashing ctrl+z till the correct node has reverted to what I want..
Are you aware of the per-parameter undo? Shift RMB on a parm does a single level of undo on any parm.
Cheers,
Peter B
Oh wow thats amazing!
But too bad its just a single undo but I can see myself using this all the time from now on..
Thanks for sharing!

Not sure about any expression but have you tried using vopsop to write out new attributes which you should be able to feed into the carve sop easily?

The problem with the copy SOP is that it requires to have the correct point position before copying, well there are workaround for this ofcourse..
You can setup the foreach SOP in a way that it checks every object one by one and placing them one by one.
Let me know how it goes.

Ofcourse there are many ways to do this in Houdini.
What I would do is first measure what the total width of your of your shelf, and somehow place a line in there.
Then you can measure your first prop's width and carve that section out from the curve using the carve sop resample that piece so theres 3 points, and then remove point 0 and 2 that should give you a single point which hold the location of your first prop.
Repeat this step for the next prop, you can repeat all of this using a switch for multiple objects and a foreach SOP to do the line carving and such..

Oh I forgot I got my laptop with me…
I created a quick setup, if you change the point number in “copyPoint” you will see it automatically updates the pin constraint network.
If you have any questions about this setup, please do not hesitate to ask me.

This should be fairly simple to create.
First create a sphere (ofcourse).
Then create another geo node to use for copying, I would use a line sop for that in the X direction.
Then use the shelf tool “RBD Point Object” and follow the instructions, first select line then press enter and then select sphere press enter.
That should create a series rigid bodies for you.
Now comes the tricky part, and that is to copy a pin constraint.
I would do that by using the “Apply Relationship” node in the DOP network, the first input should be the instanced object and the second input should be a RBD Pin Constraint.
You can set the “Apply Relationship” node to use for every instanced object, this should create a pin constraint network.
If I'm correct they should all be pointing at the same constraint object, thats not what you want and you can offset these automatically. Too bad I cant explain this better without opening Houdini at this moment, I dont have it installed at this job.
But if you do some out of the box thinking plus get the help file on “Apply Relationship” node you should get it done.
If you are still stuck you have to wait 13 hours till I get home and then I can create an example file..

Ah yes I see.
Well let me tell you something about Houdini.
While VOP's are really really powerfull in Houdini and learning this really is a must, in my opinion this is not the most important part of learning Houdini.
The procedural workflow is the most important part of Houdini, it allows artist to think non linear, creative thinking out of the box and a few steps ahead.
If you understand this procedural terminology you can basically create anything you like.
If you really are a beginner I would suggest checking out these tutorials in the correct order:
http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=202&Itemid=361 [sidefx.com]
I wish I had these tutorials available when I started out, I ended up watching them anyways since there's always a little trick you might learn from these.
You might think that 13 lessons from 1 hour each might take a long time but if you just watch 1 lesson a day (just 1 hour of your life) it will definitely pay off in the long run.
These videos will get you through all of the fields in Houdini, even visiting VOP's.
This will really kickstart your way into the VFX field, and I hope you will follow through!
