After more experiement,i think the Layout tool needs more polishment,so many glitches to use them now.
The scale and orient brushe are also hard to use,the orient brush won't respect the reverse option.
And the brush radius seems very weird to me,should not the most strong area is the middle?
The paint and fill brush's density mode should have a option to lock size, because it' a very common task. And the random orientation in the paint brush won't work either.

Houdini Lounge » Could labs team develop/update the megascans plugin?
- wanglifu

The quixel team has said that they won't develop any new features for the megascans plugin, just maintaining current state. So sadly it won't support the awesome new features about solaris, like materialx, karma xpu and component builder. Now it's tedious to import assets into solaris and converting them to usd.
Solaris and megascans are perfect match,it will be very handy to have a new bridge between them.Would labs team consider doing this?
For people who are interested how to use megascans assets in solaris for now,you can check out this tutorial.

Houdini Lounge » Debate question - should SideFX invest in paint/sculpt?

Houdini must be a general 3d package rather a vfx plugin. And the waekpoints of houdini now are the modeling/sculting tools,object/scene managment and ui/ux.Just my two cents.
Houdini for Realtime » Why not making labs tool embed with houdini?

Since sidefx labs tools are so useful nowdays, why not making them embed with houdini?Or at least make the labs option default checked on when you install houdini. So finally the render farm won't tell me i'm lacking the labs nodes.

Houdini's interface is frankly bad in my opinion. It seems to me that Houdini will remain in a narrow niche of complex simulations. Because simple simulations will be done in familiar, convenient programs like Blender, which will be overgrown with them. There are already simply amazing sets of nodes for modeling and animation. And new people just stay in a very convenient blender. And Houdini's audience is collapsing more and more. And this is a big mistake from the point of view of development, imho. The niche is narrow, the price will have to be raised, which will lead to an even greater collapse of the audience.
Blender rules the world!ohyeah

Solaris and Karma » Why the downstream nodes won't respect the change?

When I change the node name, the downstream nodes do not automatically recognize the change, why? For example, if I change the name of a material node, then I need to specify it again with the assign material node. In sop it's automatically updated, what did i miss?

Would it be possible to add a sun and sky system in Karma XPU?
It is useful at times to make exterior renders

Wow,when will you update the karma tutorial

LOL,I need to use redshift, but RS doesn't support daily builds.

Houdini Lounge » some thoughts about the stage manager and object management

The solaris system is great and with the stage manager, you can even drag&drop usd files.
But...the process to convert models to usd is hard.If you import some complicated fbx models/scenes,it's very very hard to manage these elements using nodes. But if you can using a C4D/Blender like layer-based system to manage the models,it will be much easier.
Solaris/stage manager/component builder/usd,the are all great.Houdini is lacking the final step,if sidefx could expand the stage manager to a regular layer-based object manager. Then finally houdini could be a general 3D package for everything.
Just my two cents.

osongLayout in solaris is great, but the asset prepartion is cumbersome.
One way would be to arrange stuff directly in USD I guess

It's 2022,still no luck on the object management.Using kitbash to build scene in houdini is a pain.

In the layout tool option tab,the reference and instance reference has no difference, why?
And if I want to edit the material using the Edit Material Network node,it won’t work.Is this a bug or limitation?

Houdini Lounge » layering or mixing in karama XPU (H19.5) ?

OneBigTreeEnivobThanks for posting this. I was about to ask the same question.
You can only mix colors, not shaders, so you'll have to adapt your material strategy to leverage that.
Time to dive into MtlX I guess.
Are you accessing the CD attribute by any chance in your network?
Just use Mtlx Geometry Property Value node to bind any attribute, but Cd is a special one,you should call it displayColor in solaris.
