Hello Everyone !

I'm Mathis, a French student in 3D Animation. For a personal project, I want to recreate the Santorini city (with a much simpler design) in Houdini. To begin, I have followed the Ricardo B. Ponce's video for placing primitives on a grid with a scatter system. But right now I don't really know how to proceed after this step (I'm pretty new to the soft). If you have a much simpler beginner approach in mind or some advice to do this, I will be really grateful!

Thanks you for reading this post

There are many helpful people here, but no one can answer a question like that - it's far too wide. To go from scattering a few primitives on a grid to anything even approaching that image is a bit like saying: I'm learning to drive: I've opened the door, sat in the seat, and got my hands on the wheel. Now, how do I drive to the city?

You say you are 'pretty new to the soft', how new?

Thanks you for the reply !

For asking other people the same question, I have realized that it was indeed a very vague question Right now, I'm trying to create house variants and I'm thinking on how I can achieve to scatter them on a geometry (like a grid). I don't aim for a full complex procedural generator yet (because I don't have the experience nor an idea on how to operate)

For my level, I'm a begginer (i had school courses on Houdini, especially on modelisation and some visuel effect parts)with a few weeks of experience.

OK. 'A few weeks' is nothing in Houdini land

Have a browse through the 'Learn' section at the top of this page. You should find many tutorials that have some relevance to a project like this. I'd would suggest you note the tutorial publication date / Houdini version and try and avoid those based on Houdini 19 or earlier, as Houdini is rapidly developed and they may be using techniques or nodes which are now out of date.

r/Houdini is well worth looking at (other web site are available etc.) and has a good list of resources in it's wiki that will keep you occupied for a few years : )

Here's a starter video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFXA3aC1NKY [www.youtube.com]
If things like attributes, 'copy to point', packed primitives, etc are new to you - you know what to look up : )
