Hi!

Is there a way to change the default color of an HDA node? I looked in the Type Properties window but can't find anything about colors.

Currently, I have to change the color AFTER I created the node...

you could add some code in the OnCreate event to set the color.
More code, less clicks.

Another Option would be to select the node. Bring up the node color Palette and ctrl+LMB on a color to set a default color for this node type.

Jonathan de Blok: I would have zero idea how to code that!

CYTE: No way! You mean I could have done that with any node from the start?!! Does it set the default no matter the session after? If so, this is amazing!

Thanks!

A bunch of the APEX nodes have an OnCreated Script which set their color. See: APEX AutoRig Builder
node = kwargs['node']
node.setColor(hou.Color(0.451, 0.369, 0.796))
