I am trying to get houdini 9 apprentice to run on fedora 8 and am running into several issues. I installed the latest build 9.1.116 from the daily builds, installed the latest Nvidia drivers. I have the mac pro 8cor with the nvidia geforce 7600gt card. I installed houdini as per the instructions. sourced the houdini_setup file it said the env was initialised. checked if sesintd was running and it showed me two sesintd processes.
Then I typed in hkey from the /opt/hfs9.1.116 folder and it told me there was a there was an error and i should check the error log. On doing which my error log read:

Crash report from neomatrix25; Unknown App Version 9.1.116
Traceback from Mon Jan 7 22:43:38 2008
Caught signal 11
AP_Interface::coredumpHandler(UTsignalHandlerArg) (??:0)
UT_Signal::UT_ComboSignalHandler:perator()(int, siginfo*, void*) const (??:0)
UT_Signal::processSignal(int, siginfo*, void*) (??:0)
<unknown>
RE_XServer::getWidth() const (??:0)
RE_OGLRender::RE_OGLRender(int, char const*) (??:0)
RE_Render::RE_Render(int, char const*) (??:0)
main (??:0)

I am kinda new to linux and I am trying to figure out where I am going wrong. It gives me the same error when I try to run houdini too.
Does someone know a fix please?

thanks

Hi,

I'm getting a similar error, it seems signal 11 is very generic!

I had H9.1.124 working fine, I turned my laptop off and 15 mins later came back and houdini was nolonger working!! Eek!

I get the following crash log:

Crash report from justin; Unknown App Version 9.1.124
Traceback from Fri Feb 29 20:31:02 2008
Caught signal 11
AP_Interface::coredumpHandler(UTsignalHandlerArg) (??:0)
UT_Signal::processSignal(int, siginfo*, void*) (??:0)
RE_XServer::getWidth() const (??:0)
RE_XServer::getWidth() const (??:0)
main (??:0)

I'm running gutsy on a Toshiba Satalite x200-20s with an nvidea 8700 graphics card

Anyone got any ideas what this might be, I have completely reinstalled houdini, I guess my next step will be to reinstall ubuntu.

Make sure you're running the hardware accelerated video drivers from nVidia. Otherwise, I'm all out of ideas.

There may be something in this thread to help you. It's basically what Edward suggested, but more long winded.

Just to note, the latest Nvidia drivers are very stable for me on Gutsy 64. (169.12) I would highly recommend using Envy as it saves a lot of hassle and it does a very good job.
