this one has probably been asked for heaps
of times: a chamfer_edge sop with parameters
for distance and divisions (or ‘roundness’),
and toggles for keep-original-edge and output group.

One way to get a chamfer is to use the divide SOPs smooth option.

Place a box SOP
Append a divide SOP
Turn everything off.
Now turn on Smooth Polygons.
You should already see the start of a chamfer happening.
Now change the weight values to 3 and 0.5 using the XCF slider. The chamfer is smaller.
If you want more divisions, add more divisions to get a softer chamfer.

The divide sop is unsuitable in many cases as it
will divide un selected, connected edges.
Its divisions are also strange;
a division of 2 on an edge will produce 2
extra edges where a division of 1 will produce
no extra edges.

Yes unfortunately it affects all the geometry. This is an RFE now.

Thank-you

i've just did a small search on chamfer in the forums. as I do not find new information, i just ask if that feature made any progress yes. Houdini really lacks this specific feature. A chamfer/bevel SOP would be a real nice addition to houdinis modeling tools.

using existing chamfer-like SOPs (starburst, divide) end in undesirable results.
