Modelling Shading Artifacts

Hi!

For some reason my model always has some black shaded spots when viewed from flat angles. When I change my model from Polygon Mesh to Mesh, the problem disappears, but I need to use a polygon mesh. Does anyone has an idea why this happens?

hi,

looks to me like some points aren't welded right, have you
tried to use the fuse SOP to melt your mesh with the smallest amount of distance ??!

Well with fuse there are even more artifacts. Where do these artifacts come from anyway?
