Well I saw this video some time ago using emPolygonizer2 doing this in XSI, and wanted to see if I could do something like that in Houdini and here is what I came up with.

http://www.vimeo.com/17471791 [vimeo.com]

Using the Flip solver, the resulting geometry generated was sent over to a geometry light and renderd with Micropolygon PBR, render time around 15min / frame including the surface generation which I didn't store on disc.

Hope you like it, comments welcome.

Nice work.

Can you tell something about the shading which you have created or used?

Nice work.

Thanks Roughsporty.

I used the “Mantra Surface” from the Material Palette for both the lava and the room.

For the lava I messured the velocity on the particles from the FLIP sim in a vopsop, putting it into a fit node figuring out some nice min/max values converting it to 0-1 with the fit node, running it through a color ramp which then applied applied color to the particles.
And at the particlefluidsurface node under the attributes tab I put in Cd (color) so it carried over to the mesh generated at this step.

Then in the shader I had “use point color” checked.

Does it answer your question ?

cool, 15min per frame is pretty great too.

nice one.

Another thumbs up here. Very cool.
There's at least one school like the old school!

Thanks all for your comments !

I've been asked if would share the setup for this and after cleaning it up some (hopefully free of any references to stuff on my disc) here it is.

Besides removing cache references I also reduced the amount of particles emitted by the “Flip Fluid Object” so it will sim faster.

It was saved with 11.0.547

Hope you like it
