Hi all, I'm a new user and current computer art student in Savannah, GA.

I had a brief question regarding the use of Houdini and Maya together in a project:

I know Houdini will read .obj format models exported from maya as a polygon mesh. My question is, it it possible to export houdini models as a mesh in .obj format so that I can use them in maya? I'm currently working on a group project and the final animation will be in maya. I'm using houdini to model some bamboo and would like to be able to export it so that it can be textured and rendered in maya together with the rest of our scene, thus eliminating any need for compositing after rendering.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, the sooner the better! Thanks!

Really? Never heard of this before. You should be able to right click on any node in houdini to get some sort of menu.

If you are writing out stuff a lot you might want to start using Rop nodes so that you don't have to keep browsing for the save path.

Actually I'm not sure this is available in Apprentice.

don't forget to reverse the normals in houdini and append a facet-SOP with “post-compute normals” on. otherwise you have shading problems in maya.
