Hello please help.

I keep getting this error I have my license. Just wont run. Any suggestions

It looks like the hserver service is not running. Houdini connects to hserver which in turn connects to the license server to obtain a license. However, there is no output under
'hserver -l' in your diagnostic output, and it sounds like you're getting “Unable to connect to hserver for license acquisition” messages.

Have you tried rebooting your machine? Rebooting should restart the hserver service.

I think im having the same problem , I downloaded the Apprentice edition and the instullation went fine , the licenes seemed to work fine but evry time I try to run Houdini it wants me to install the licenes again , Im using windows xp , and i have a router but all my ports are open so i dont think that sould make a difference . I need to get that program working before the 12/1/02 when buzzs houdini course begins

Yes I tried rebooting serveral times. Installing reinstalling. I even went as far as deleting registry keys and reinstalling. I also even deleted the services from the registry and reinstalled. I went into services and started the program still nothing.

I don't know what else I can try. I also tried renaming my comp so I can get a differnt server name to get possibly a differn't license. Still don't work.

Im using Windows XP Pro , what OS are you using ?
do you think it would work on Windows 2000 ?
do you think a router could have any thing to do with it ?

I had a problem while installing Maya on Windows XP , evry time I tryed to run it , I got an error talling me that there is a write error and then it shot down.
I think that Windows XP dosent let programs write to some folders, like the windows folder . and that the programs that need to write some temp files are geting blocked .

Hey I checked it out and I found out that it is the same problem I had with Maya , The TEMP folder that is under Documents and Settings in Windows XP is not accessible to evry one , so what you need to do is to find a way to make it accessible to evry one , that meens that Houdini can write temp files to the TEMP folder .

I didnt find a way to do this , evry time I try to uncheck read-only it dosent work . If you know how to do this please let me know

check out the Scripting.pdf, there is a section on Environment Variables:

“HOUDINI_TEMP_DIR The directory to which Houdini writes /tmp files to.”

No luck I tried to give permissions but I have Windows Xp home ed. I tried looking into enviromental variables and added a var but I don't believe it is set right. What I tried is reinstalling into my local my documents folder rather on system programs folder. Still no luck. It looks like my service client doesn't want to stay running. I tried restarting and changing the log on for the service it will start, but then it will quickly stop. So I am back at square one. I tried speaking to support but they told me to post here. So I am bit fustrated with this program. Is there any other suggestions from anyone.

well I tryed the same thing but it dident work too . can you tell me how to delete the liceness ?
