Hey folks I am very new to this product and am coming over from Maya, I installed Houdini but when I try to get the licenses using the license manager or even going to the licensing site it gives me an eror “Could not generate license”, I am using the Apprentice version of the software and tried originally installing the latest version 6.5.83 and then tried uninstalling that and going back to version 6.1.208. Both do the same thing, any ideas what may be causing my problem? If I am posting this in the wrong section please point me in the right direction.

Just incase my system specs are:
Dell Latitude D800
P4 Centrino 1.6Ghz
1 Ghz DDR400 Memory
Nvidea Gforce FX5750go w/128MB ram
Windows XP Pro/SP1
Thanks in advance

I did about exactly the same thing yesterday, and retried today with no good result.

OS: SuSE Linux 9.0
Versions: 6.1.208-linux8 and 6.5.83-rh9
Servername: notebook
ServerKey: cc928d00
GPU: Nvidia FX5900go  ?

Hope this helps to spot the problem.

Following steps solved the problem on my system:

1) start houdini
2) click on “install NC license” and
3) IMMEDIATELY switch to another desktop
4) wait for the “license installed” dialog
5) …
6) PROFIT!

Well, I'd guess this was a server issue tho

Please go to Start -> Programs -> Side Effects Software -> Houdini License Administrator then in the Administrator, go to View -> Diagnostic Information. Please save the info then copy & paste it here. It will help in troubleshooting the problem.

Alternatively, you can go to this link [license.sidefx.com] to get a license manually.

Cheers!

Hi MedullaPancreas,

I assume you're having problems installing licenses for your machine. Can you please try starting Houdini Master again? You should get a dialog asking whether you want to install Apprentice licenses & you can click on the “Install Apprentice License” (blue in colour) in the dialog which should connect your machine to the server.

If you're still having problems, please go to my post above & click on the word link to generate your keys manually. After getting your keys, please start the Houdini License Administrator, select File -> Manually Enter Keys… & copy & paste the generated keys into the dialog then click Accept. If all goes well, you will get a pop-up that says all the keys are successful.

Please let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Steven,

Thanks for your help!

I reinstalled Houdini and no longer get the License Administrator (automatically) when I open Houdini Master. However I still get a small error window, stating:
  • “houdini.exe load failed: No such file or directory” The software still loads and seems to be functional, except for this fatal error message in the beginning. Is this fixable? I can post pictures if it helps clarify my problem.

    Thanks again!

    Cheers!

Hi MedullaPancreas,

I guess Houdini is working for you now? Yep, please post pictures if possible because I have not seen the error before.

Cheers!
