Hi,

I have a large mesh that is procedurally made in houdini, however I need to get it into maya and I want to construct the entire path hierarchy. So once its in maya its group nicely with transforms and shape nodes.

I found this thread below that kind of works, the mesh comes in with a root node with each separate mesh as a shapes.

The alembic ROP seems to give the impression that I can fully create hierarchy with transform nodes and shape nodes, however I have been unable todo so.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If your objects have hierarchy in the Object Level , So you can simply export them to Maya via FBX format (File–>Export–>Filmbox FBX).

But what's your Houdini Licence ?
Because I think you can export your objects with Alembic ROP or FBX only in commercial (or Limited Commercial) licences !?

Alembic ROP can export each different groups to maya (convert each group to different shape) perfectly :?

You need to create a name attribute with a name sop, set to name by group name. and in the alembic rop, use partition by attribute, with the attribute being, name. It has also been noticed that the last node before the Alembic rop needs to be clicked on.

In Maya you should see your partitioning with show ahapes on in the outliner and clicking open the shape node.
