Ya know, with “advice” like you gave Brucelay. I don't take what you say as valid.

And I am not looking for “grease” I am saying whay I am saying so that SESI will grease themselves.

The “realistic arm” tutorial probably dated back to Houdini 3 or earlier. Houdini 6 and 7 has a MAJOR improvement to their character toolsets. So the chance of the legacy tutorial being broken is highly likely. However, there are stil other legacy tutorials that are still valid in its basic working of it, tho the workflow might differs a tiny bit. As far as I can tell now, there hasn't really been that many expression functions that's gone from the legacy materials, other than lots more functions were added over the course of several versions.

To be honest, I personally find that the old PDF materials and the online materials found in hbrowser, IMHO, are are more or less still similiar to those hardcopy that I have (which dated back to v2.5). The online manual found in hbrowser has, of course, updated materials more or less. The only difference that I can see is that you can't print out those manuals directly from hbrowser (which I and probably others have submitted as an RFE).

harlequin,

I repeat to you once more (still making a great effort not to give in to your tactless attitude) - I followed the realistic arm tutorial, and many others; I used H7.0.192 and earlier versions. Yes, I had some minor problems. Yes, I was able to overcome all of them.

Now - don't try to make me think you are less apt to it than anybody else on this forum.

I just needed to figure out how to translate the real arm tutorial into version 7 functionality. I finally just made the arms with no IK and added the effectors manually.

I have no problems with modeling and I was able to follow and learn alot from the 3d buzz IK tutorials.

I am a student currently learning Houdini!
Your rendered pic looks very nice!

Did you use mantra's area light to render it? Did you use any GI technique to render it? e.g. ambient occlusion?

Thanks for the complement. I used mantra with VexGI.
