Graph Editor: separate handles

Hey Guys.
How can I make both keyframe handles completely independent of each other in the graph editor? I tried applying “untie handles” to a keyframe, which to a certain degree separated them, but whenever I move one handle, the other moves on time axis too.

I'm sure it's just me not paying attention to one of the tutorials.

Depending on what part of a “keyframe handle” you select, the untie function will react accordingly.

Untie will break the continuity in value, slope, or acceleration depending whether you selected the value, the tangent lines, or the tangent endpoints when you activated the untying.

Hi Johm. Thanks for posting.
I finally managed to figure it out.
In order to completely untie tangent endpoints I can't just select one of the endpoints and click untie, because even though the button at first appears to be available, when I click it - it becomes greyed out and nothing happens.
I need to marquee select both: the tangent and the endpoint, and only then the untie button becomes available and allows me to completely untie the endpoints.

If I try to untie Acceleration, nothing happens,

I get, according to the image below, with ease the dotted slope-handles and the untied values as well,
but I do not get the empty squares, no matter what selection strategy I use.

Please help,

My personal and naive theory is that the lack of "empty box" visual representation of untied acceleration handles is simply a bug. Of course, correct me if I'm wrong.

By default (at least in my configuration), acceleration handles are in an untied state. However, they are represented as filled boxes, contrary to what we can deduce from documentation. We can only verify their tied/untied state empirically --- by adjusting their acceleration (with CTRL+LMB for example) while they're both selected.

When we tie them together, they are still represented as filled boxes, but if both are selected they can be adjusted simultaneously. If we select only one in an attempt to modify them both, the acceleration of the "tied" opposite handle will not change, which is somewhat counterintuitive.
