Maya VBD Losing its Mojo!

So… brand-new to Houdini.

I have successfully exported a .vdb to Maya and am rendering with Renderman. At the beginning of the simulation, it matches the original look in Houdini. The longer it runs, the more it seems to lose mass and volume, even though it seems the info is there. Have a look:

This is the Maya interface of the same frame:


But the actual render of this frame is piddly:


It almost looks like the camera is just much further back in the render, but it's not - it's in the same position as the screenshot. Like I said, earlier in the sequence, the renders match the Houdini source. It's like it's losing density the longer it runs in Maya. In all cases, exported Density and Velocity, and in Renderman am using Density as the input.
