I was wondering if the description that Jeff gave in a old post meant you could form a construction plane co-planer to 3 points?

I swear before 17.0 I was able to do this as he describes:

Tab - construction plane tool
Then select three points on your object
The construction plane should now snap to those three points.

But I can no longer do it; perhaps I have a bad memory.

It seems the only way to do it is to create a prim out of those points and then go into ‘construction plane mode’ with the forward slash key, then click on the normal of the newly created prim; then delete the prim.

It's an easy solution, but would be nice to be able to just pick 3 points.

I tried using the handles, i.e. select primary axis then secondary axis. But the issue with that is unless the second point is perpendicular to the first point, the original primary axis gets shifted after the second is made.

Using ‘Frame on selected geometry’ from the drop down menu of ‘Set Construction Plane’ only brings the center of the construction plane to the center of the 3 selected points; Remaining co-planar to its' original plane.

Anyone know how to just select 3 points to make the construction plane co-planar to those 3 points?

So there is a solution I got from support.

I suggested it be put in the docs in the section:

Geometry > Snapping, construction plane, and alignment.

To explain what 'Extended Mod" is/used for.

I am told orientation picking was changed to use a new quick mode by default, where you just want to pick a single component with which to align. To get the old mode, just press the RMB while in the construction plane tool and set it to “Use Extended Mode” in the menu that pops up.

Hi BabaJ;

I have save problem…
I set the C-Plane to “Extended Mode”, now where could I find Geometry > Snapping, construction plane, and alignment?

Is this what you mean:

OK thanks, but now how could I select tree points, and align c_plane to them?
