Baking smoke's color/opacity into a mesh?

I want to bake a smoke simulation into a UV unwrapped mesh. Just like one bakes a high poly mesh into a low poly mesh. Only with smoke's color and opacity. I tried using the GameDev simple baker and was able to render height, which actually had some information in it:






However the height data is quite useless to me, I need the high quality opacity data and (hopefully) the color - just like everything I see in the viewport. Is it possible somehow?
