I'm stuck on old hardware, is it possible to get a non-commercial and indie license that works with an old houdini build? Specifically houdini 16.5.496???

I have tried to get houdini 18 to work but the license does not transfer. If I try to run houdini 16.5.496 it says failed to acquire license. Is there a work around for this issue?

A Houdini license should be backwards compatible for all version (i.e. H18 license should license a Houdini 16 product). What is likely happening is that you have a 16.0 hserver or sesinetd which would not think an H18 license is valid thus not picking that license up. Please email support as they can help you setup your licensing environment with your current configuration.
