Maybe a bit off topic but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how or where can I purchase that Houdini rubber toy that Christopher has on his bookshelf behind him?
They were giving them away for free at Siggraph (along with t-shirts and SideFX branded M&M's). Sometimes they have them and other swag in the Houdini User Group meetings in different cities.
I have mine sitting on my shelf as well, and I'm sure people who have seen it have wondered what the hell it is and why do I have such a weird toy.
You can export the model to an stl file and have a 3d company like Shapeways, iMaterialize, etc. print it off.
However, I'm not sure of the process if you want a colored model.
iMaterialize does say they can do colored stl. Not sure if the color should be applied to points or the prims - but there is the step of first how to convert the shop material to a color attribute.(I thought I could find a map of the shop material used in the install directory and use an attribute from map - but no luck).
Edit: If one applies color attribute to any point/vertex/prims and save as stl. Loading it back in shows that information is lost. So I think one might have to look at another program that could save out a colored stl.
Thanks everyone for all the responses! I'm determined to have that toy on my desk for inspiration while I learn Houdini I'll definitely check these options BabaJ. Thanks!
P.S Does anyone have an idea on the best way to export the toy with the textures for 3D printing?
