How to overwrite a material of a USD asset

Hello i have a rather simple question lets say i have a usd asset that i want to change it material
I can use the edit material node but it doesn't have a feature to save and overwrite the changes i made to the material
i can load the asset with a reference node and assign a new material it but if i set the same path as the material houdini gives me a console error telling me the textures are the same any additional change doesn't get save

Maybe i should rethink the way i'm creating a usd asset, using multiple layers would solve the issue so what would be the idea solution
