Houdini 17 Sneak Peek
Houdini 17 には、GPU による高速化のクロス、ヘア、ソフトボディ、粒子のマルチソルバ、まったく新しいホワイトウォーターソルバ、マテリアル(素材)ベースの破壊フレームワーク、フェイシャル自動リグ、フルボディIK、改良されたアニメーションとモデリングワークフロー、UVの自動シーム生成、GLTF 入出力、ゲーム開発ツールなど豊富な新機能搭載。
10月2日に Houdini 17 Launch イベントがモントリオールの Cirque Éloize で行われました。ここでの講演で録画された Houdini 17 の新機能はこちらです。

I don't think that 17 will have all Marvelous features. I think Marvelous will be still better choice for cloth.

No way, Marvelous has a ton of cool features. But I wouldn't mind building tools to copy any missing features. We're currently figuring out how to treat COPs like Substance Designer, and things are progressing well. Managed to get texture displacement to affect geometry in the viewport, so I'm very happy about that.

So AMAZING, my fricking jaw dropped and I almost spilled my coffee over the keyboard. Superb work SideFX! Love the new cloth Solver, Pyro Retime Tool, Open VDB Sourcing and the new NVIDEA OptiX Denoiser!! Every feature is outstanding cant wait till release!

Looks really cool! But i was kind of hoping for more of a real time interface gearing towards real-time animation output. Especially with RTX technology! I have not yet seen a 3D Animation interface that is geared towards that, which Maya was trying to do long ago,and is now easily achievable, while Game Engines are doing it. Although it looks like Blender 2.8 is going that way. But I'd rather see it in Houdini!

I used Maya paint effects from 2011~2017. They're just MEL scrips that require heavy, manual labor to get anything decent out of. It used to be my go-to foliage tool, but it wasn't fun. But when we needed an Arnold Procedural instancer for a property with 10,000 square feet of grass, shrubs, trees and mulch, we coded it in a VEX wrangle within an afternoon.
I get where you're coming from. Maya has a lot of neat legacy tools. But if you give Houdini a shot, you'll see how it's an effort amplifier. For instance, I used to model buildings by hand in Maya at a rate of 1 building every 16~20 hours. Compare that to a custom tool I made in Houdini that generates full renderable buildings instantly using just a few slider parameters that I defined. It's a huge improvement in quality of life! I literally sleep more, haha.
Maya has shelf tools that abstract the technical side and keeps things "artistic." Houdini on the other hand encourages you to build your own tools and is more "technical."
The way that I transitioned was by choosing just one skill, Modeling, and telling myself not to do any modeling in Maya if I could help it. Eight months later, Houdini is the best modeling tool I've ever used. So yeah, just give it a shot! I guarantee it'll grow on you. =]

Paint Effects... OK. maybe you're right to some extent, but I bet that in next two H releases Maya and all the Fuc..DESK will look like rookies compared to Houdini.
And If you're such a fun of Maya, what are you doing here, in Houdini realm?

This alone tells SideFx started thinking about Wrangler's pains. I tell ya ! This feature may be unnoticeable or underwhelmed BUT I see this as the number 1 feature of this release. Whoever has participated in "this" problem fixing you all WILL find rest in paradise :)
User Experience - Detailed attribute info with visualization in the node-info dialog -------as well :)

Is it possible to add these to next versions :
- "Bezier Handle" method to curve SOP ...
- Exporting camera (or primitive as Null node) to "After Effects" ...
- Adapt Houdini's scene scale to other DCCs like Maya or Cinema4D ...
- Rotation angle snap ...
- "Auto-complete" functionality of "User Defined Variables", to wrangles ...
- a "Knit Solver" ...
- Better user interface for L-System SOP ...
- Better workflow for bend gizmo ...
- Border selection like 3ds-max ...
- Selecting and transform points on multi-selected geometries, simultaneously...
- ...

Im gonna suggest the English Language academy to replace the word "trash" with the word autodesk. So for instance if someone wants to say take the trash outside, instead they would say take the autodesk outside.
