ok, it's with a very heavy scene… approximately 100 million polygons..
now, i tested with a cube and it's perfect…

Could you please try something if you have some time?
What if you render the scene with the Maxwell Render ROP, open the exported .mxs file in Studio and start Fire. If it runs well, there is something with the plug-in. If Studio crashes as well, then the bug is in the Fire engine. Sadly it will be a little bit hard to fix the bug if it appear only in very complex scenes.

I made a simple scene with a Maxwell Scene and a torus with a carpaint shader on it.

After hit render it launches maxwell render but then I get a message that the scene1.mxs cannot be read

Are you using Maxwell 2.5.1? There was a change in the mxs format between 2.5 and 2.5.1.

I have a mac. I installed Houdini 11.0.5 and Maxwell 2.5.0
But I don't seem to find a plugin for it.
I tried the one that just released but it doesn't work
where can I find this version of the plugin

The plugin doesn't work for Houdini Non Commercial version. Read the first posts of this thread.

The plug-in is for the Houdini daily builds at the moment, and works with Maxwell 2.5.1. Houdini license is required to use the exporter.

Hey guys,
Maxwell appears in the shelves of houdini but doesn't start he render.
How do I edit the %PATH% variable to include the %MAXWELL2_ROOT% directory?

Hi astro,

the plug-in uses the MAXWELL2_ROOT environment variable as the default, but it's possible to override the path in Houdini. You can set it in the Edit -> Preferences -> Maxwell Render Settings… window.
But of course setting the environement variable can be also a solution. In windows, open the Control Panel, open System, select the Advanced tab and click on the Environment variables button.

This is just on OSX, somehow it doesn't like icon definitions wich point to otls. It will be fixed in the next release. Thanks.

Hello, i want say you new bug i found in your plugin but where i say you this?
i try here..

1. if i open “maxwell fire” into houdini, i can move light and object without problems, but if i change a setting from my “maxwell material” with “maxwell fire” open into houdini, houdini crash imediately.

2. if I import FBX format into houdini, maxwell render don't see FBX object.

3. If i change “light parameter” into maxwell, geometry become invisible… i saw my “below geometry” over my “top geometry”… you see that i want explain??

4. I modeled a watchband in houdini, and when i render this into maxwell, (my material is a chrome), i have “artefact” into my render.. but only with reflective material…
I can send you my file if you want.. but give me your mail please… my work is professional and i can't show to all .

5. And A REQUEST…
It's possible to integrate “light linker” from houdini into your plugin?

Just want to let you know that in Houdini 11.0.744, each frame starts a separate instance of Maxwell Render for every frame, and every instance renders the sequence submitted. So if you submit 200 frames, 200 instances of Maxwell render will render 200 frames. My computer started glowing.

This is really a bug in the plug-in, soho calls the render in each frame and the plug-in opens Maxwell by each soho call. The fix will be available in the next release within two weeks I guess. Let me know if you need it before that and I can send it in private.
