I have a sphere redshift instanced to 500,000 simulated particles. I'm using the velocity to color my spheres and referencing the Cd attribute to control diffuse_color. Unfortunately, it takes 23 seconds for Redshift to build the scene. Without this attribute, Redshift takes no more than 3 seconds.
The time I have to wait seems to grow exponentially as I increase the point count. I plan on having more than a million particles by the end.
do you want to render spheres in the end or is this just a placeholder? In the former case, you should use the particle tab in the redshift obj settings.
