Learn how to render terrains created in Copernicus using Houdini 22’s Solaris and Karma workflows. This tutorial covers preparing a COP-based height field for rendering, converting height field data into renderable geometry, exporting useful terrain attributes, and importing the result into Solaris for lighting, shading, and final output.

You’ll also explore practical rendering techniques including terrain scaling, physical sky lighting, atmospheric haze, material assignment, resolution comparisons, Karma render setup, and Houdini 22 image filters such as chromatic aberration, vignetting, and tone mapping. This workflow is valuable for artists who want to move procedural terrain data from Copernicus into a polished final render while maintaining control over detail, composition, lighting, and cinematic presentation.

Thanks so much for this Alasgar! Next maybe you could walk through how this could be integrated with some foliage and ocean and clouds?

Excellent, and thank you for sharing the render. Peter showed how to model it, and this rendering stage was the missing part of the workflow. Thanks once again!

Why did we export all those attributes from COPs if we didn't use them in the render?

Thanks, this cleared a few things up for me!
When a lesson is completed, it would be nice to have a visual indicator on the learning page (like a green border around the thumbnail) to show it's been watched.
