I did software for 20 years, mostly testing, but some coding and full life cycle work as well. Always had art on the back burner. Both fine art and computer generated art. I took Maya and 3DS Max back in the Alias Research days, but decided to stick with my engineering firm. Company downsizing, bounced me to the next hot hot tech product, iPhones and iPads. Enjoyed it, but it almost impossible to get rich, especially the way I was trying to do it - all by myself. So looking to get into 3D with Houdini now.
The 2024 Mardini was my first real deep dive. I had tinkered, but very narrow slices of learning.
Mardini forced the participants into less traveled nodes, and scars were created, and time warps were attempted.
In the end, the task taught me that this is what I want to pursue. The combination of art and technical is exactly what I prefer as my next job.
"The game is a foot".
My fine art can be seen at:

My portfolio for Houdini, is now underway.
Stay tuned for that.
I will probably place that in Artstation:

In the end I didn't get them all done, but I did learn a lot.
I focused on solving some of the problems and finishing some days instead of moving on.
Ice storm in Barrie did not help either...
I am proud of days 9, 10 and 6 and did a lot more modelling(not great, but learning) this time around.
I had a lot of good ideas but couldn't deliver them....Learned so much new stuff, so worth it.
Soft Transform is my Friend!
Hopefully be back next year to do it again,
Great work everyone - Enjoyed the pieces created, and still need to view some...
Thanks you for Sidefx people for taking the effort to do this.
Really enjoy the challenge.
Rob.
