I finally got it working. Even though windows was showing 123.py it was actually 123.py.txt. Still, please SideFX add a AutoSave on by Default option..

Recently I have installed H17 on my workstation. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get Autosave to be on by default. I've tried the 123.cmd, 123.py, 456 ect… Nothing will turn my autosave on by default. Over the past 2 days I've lost around 8 hours of work because of this issue.
As advanced as houdini is I find it completely insane that I have to jump through so many hoops to get Autosave on by default. Please SideFX streamline this very simple and fundamental process.

Yeah, I'm seeing the same issue with both density and heat channels. So far I've only tested it in viewport preview. I have not tried rendering the volumes yet. But I assume if its popping in preview that we'll see a pop in render.
I would love to hear how to best deal with the popping values. I know retiming fire causes a lot of issues. FumeFx has a hard time with retiming fire without popping as well. I thought reducing the speed to say .5 rather than .1 would help but the pops seem to become even more apparent when I do that.
