Houdini Main Changelogs

Houdini 4.9.512 A tip regarding the Sawfish 0.36-7 window manager included with Red Hat Linux 7.1: The default Sawfish Shortcuts may cause unwanted behaviour with child windows in Houdini. Specifically, clicking on the main Houdini window will raise it above all other windows, including its children. To disable this unwanted behaviour, go to the Sawfish window manager settings (in the GNOME Control Center); go to Shortcuts; choose the Window Context; Delete the three entries corresponding to the three mouse buttons. These are attached to the command "Raise and pass through click". Click OK, and you're done! Wed. October 24, 2001
Houdini 4.9.512 The default setting of HOUDINI_OGL_DBL_BUFFER_FIX is now OFF even for nVidia Quadro/GeForce cards because the latest Detonator XP drivers have been fixed. Wed. October 24, 2001
Houdini 4.9.512 The world-level capture mirror state is now in pretty good shape. You select the geometry points you want to mirror. Then you select the bones you want to mirror from. The state makes a guess about which bones you want to mirror to, but this guess can be overridden. Then it creates the capture mirror SOP, and makes a guess about the origin and direction of the mirror plane. It also tries to match the ordering of the from and to capture regions (regardless of the order in which they were selected in the viewport). Wed. October 24, 2001
Houdini 4.9.510 Enabling edge grouping with point groups and boundary groups in the Group SOP should no longer crash and actually do something. Mon. October 22, 2001
Houdini 4.9.510 Can now orientation pick in the UV viewport. Mon. October 22, 2001
Houdini 4.9.510 cplane command now has a "-x" option that allows users to specify the x-axis direction of the construction plane (so that they can control the orientation around the normal.) Mon. October 22, 2001
Houdini 4.9.510 Linux version of Houdini now sports a splash screen. Mon. October 22, 2001
Houdini 4.9.507 We no longer scale keyframes to have the time of the last keyframe match the new animation length when changing the frame rate. If you want to modify your animation timing, then you must do so explicitly. There is now a HOUDINI_ENABLE_FPS_SCALE environment variable for the old behaviour. Fri. October 19, 2001
Houdini 4.9.507 The vcc command now has a -E option to simply run the pre-processor on the code. This is useful for debugging complex define control structures. Fri. October 19, 2001
Houdini 4.9.505 Hotkeys are now managed by the hotkey manager in the custom panel UI builder. Wed. October 17, 2001
Houdini 4.9.505 Removing the last custom panel will now actually remove it from the UI. Wed. October 17, 2001
Houdini 4.9.505 The default rayshadow shader was changed so that to compute shadows using a a depth map, both the shadow type and the map must be specified. Previously, if a z-map was specified, this was enough to turn on z-depth shadows. This may change the behaviour of existing HIP files. Wed. October 17, 2001
Houdini 4.9.505 Fixed some problems with the variable name in the read command reading passed the end of the buffer. Wed. October 17, 2001
Houdini 4.9.504 Setting the environment variable "HOUDINI_NO_SPLASH" will disable the splash screen. Tue. October 16, 2001
Houdini 4.9.504 The Capture and CaptureProximity SOPs will now always generate capture weight detail attributes regardless of how many points were captured. If no points were captured, then we don't generate the pCapt point attribute. This allows you to paint capture weights on geometry that has no points captured. Tue. October 16, 2001
Houdini 4.9.504 The Edit Capture Weights state now has viewport interaction added. After choosing your point selection, slider handles get created for all currently displayed bones. The initial slider knob position for each bone is set to the average of each particular bone's weight in the point selection. If the slider knob is at the tip of the bone, then (by default), it means a weight of 1.0, while a slider knob positioned at the beginning of the bone means a weight of 0. As you move the knob, it increases the weights in the point selection for that particular bone (additively) using the value displayed. If you start subtracting weights, then the weights will (by default) clamp at 0 if they go negative. To bring up an XCF slider, you middle-click on the slider knob. If you want to set the weights of all points in the selection to a precise value, rather than relatively adding to them, then you can hold down the shift key while using the mouse either to slide the knob or to being up an XCF slider. Note that the XCF slider will not do any clamping. Tue. October 16, 2001
Houdini 4.9.503 Added two menu entries to the OBJ viewer to allow changing the wire color of objects from white to black and vice-versa. These options will come in handy when changing the color scheme between Dark and Light in the Display Option Dialog.

Why doesn't the changing of the color scheme change the obj wire color? Because you might be changing the color scheme on SOPs, not OBJs, or you might change it only in one viewport.

Mon. October 15, 2001
Houdini 4.9.503 Facet::remove inline points now deletes the points in addition to detaching them from the geometry. Mon. October 15, 2001
Houdini 4.9.503 ombind now take an optional -d parameter to specify default settings for the manipulator. The meaning of the default settings is specific to the type of manipulator, so users will not likely use this option. It is here mainly for completeness. The default specified here is written out with the omwrite command. Mon. October 15, 2001
Houdini 4.9.503 The floor state now translates the entire floor as you move your mouse, not just the outline. Mon. October 15, 2001
Houdini 4.9.503 Fixed bug where the ch() function would not evaluate another channels value unless there was a keyframe. This bug did not affect spare channels and only applies to channels that are owned by parameters. Mon. October 15, 2001
Houdini 4.9.502 Rotoscoping has been extended to use disk files, as well as images cooked from the new and old compositors (for backward compatibility with older hip files). The viewport display options dialog now contains more preferences for these extensions, as does the Roto page of the Camera object. The viewbackground command also has more flags to set these options (see the command help). Sun. October 14, 2001
Houdini 4.9.500 The node auto-layout code now gives nice results when inserting in the middle of the chain and when branching off. Fri. October 12, 2001
Houdini 4.9.500 The material palette has been replaced with a SHOP palette. Fri. October 12, 2001
Houdini 4.9.500 Select and Houdini now have new (and different) splash screens on NT. Fri. October 12, 2001
