Hi,

Im using Openframeworks / Cinder to develop an application running with MS Kinect. I want to be able to process point clouds in Houdini. My plan is to export each frame and use them in Houdini geometry importer.

My workflow is very similar to this project, but they used Max afaik.

What would be the file format for this kind of process? Currently im able to export in Ply and Obj format.

Any suggestion to convert these point clouds into particles?

Thank you!

No one seemed to have answered this yet. Just got a Kinect myself and I'm a Houdini lover.

All thought I cannot help you much with this, I am interested. OBJ files can be imported without question.

How's it going with the project?

The preferred way to get point clouds in Houdini is the .PC format, although .BGEOs also work fine. I don't know where you can get the specs for the formats though…
Another option would be to send a polygon mesh to houdini by saving an FBX, or OBJ and then with the Add SOP you can delete the geometry but keep the points. You can then process the points as you'd like.
